Playability: 4.5
As an easy introduction to Stronghold, especially for younger children, this game wins all the way. the small map size, ample resources and easily achievable target, make it fun for any newbie to the game. Played on Hard or Very Hard More experienced players may find the game enjoyable. I have scored this as an entry level game for new players.
Balance: 3.5
The game is balanced heavily towards an easy Victory, I feel even young children need a challenge, simply starting with slightly fewer resources would make the gamer feel that they had achieved the final victory.
Creativity: 4
The idea of creating a game for younger players is a good idea, and the setting (storytelling} aids the players understanding of the authors aims.
Map Design: 4
The maps setting is based on a 160x160 landscape and the author certainly crammed as many resource areas into it as could be made acceptable. The placement of trees, iron, and stone quarries, are abundant, but are situated in a way not to feel they have just been placed carelessly. The stream sloping down from the strange waterfall, which I assume must come from an underground hillside lake, are attractive and the author has made adequate use of a nicely designed compact map. I particularly liked the 5 rabbits (cursed sisters] placed by the camp fire, and shows the authors ability to include the storytelling into the landscape.
Story/Instructions: 4
The story is simple and straight forward and sets the game up nicely, apart from a few grammatical errors, it is well constructed. I assume English is not the authors first language, and as such he has translated his story very well.
Additional Comments:
The author states this is a game for younger children and his ability to design the map and challenge along with the story will entice many of them. The map looks good and is a reasonable romp for most levels of game player.
