Welcome to my latest map for advanced players. This is a challenging concept map, in that you don't have any stone available near your keep so you must destroy the ruins around you to collect stone for fortifications to survive the enemy onslaught. Place your keep in the ruined castle, and ally four Arabian lords against you. Play 4000 or 8000 computer gold advantage for a very hard challenge. Read the story for clues on how to win this scenario. I spent quite a while dolling this up as a playable skirmish eye candy, so enjoy the detail! Rate and comment if so inclined.
Once a castle mighty enough to rival Acre itself, Château de Crèvecoeur was hastily built in the lands of Tripoli during the first crusade by your Grandfather to protect what was then the most important port of the area. Named after the Chateau which resides in the lands of your family in France, it was to bring prosperity and a means of travel for pilgrims to the crusader states. Tragedy struck 50 years later when it was sacked by Seljuk forces. They left the castle a ruin. Its desolate port on the large island behind it now bears only the sounds of the rushing waves of the Mediterranean.
With news of King Philip Augustus rallying countrymen for the third great crusade, you pick up the sword and answer the call to arms. You are to go back to Château de Crèvecoeur. Your mission is to restore it to its former glory, reopen the ports, avenge your Grandfather and honor your family’s name.
Upon arrival you find what you were expecting. The once great castle is now a crumbling hulk. Vague foundations on the island behind it are all that remains of the port. You are happy to find however, that one of the two original bridges to the island is still intact and serviceable. The lighthouse fortification too, is still standing. With a happy heart you set to work the masons and construction men.
No sooner had you begun, Arab enemies discover you have landed and descend upon the castle. They intend to finish you and what remains of your family legacy for good. Four Arab lords set up camps outside your castle walls. There is Omar, the Wazir, the Nazir, and leading them all is Saladin himself. They’ve taken control of the stone quarries around the castle. Rebuilding the castle is no longer an option. With no stone at your disposal, you now must tear down the ruins for what precious little materials they contain for fortifications! You are surrounded. There is no way out. There is no word of reinforcements coming. Your lush island can bring in trade via your ships, and tax revenue can be had from the bounty it can produce. It may be your only hope. It must be defended at all costs.
Saladin sends a messenger to bring you warnings of the coming siege.
