Hills, Cliffs, and Apples
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a concept I've been wanting to try for a while: Somehow incorporate groves of apple trees in the landscape. So here it is: Hills, Cliffs, and Apples. Troops trudge through groves of wild apples to reach their opponents. The hills will constantly move and shimmer with blossoms, apples, and autumn foliage. Also, the tree/shrub character limit is maxed out so you may find that when you place an apple orchard the building will show up but no trees will grow. The worker will actually walk over to the hills and pick the wild apples! Computer enemies will also attempt to destroy the wild apple groves with their mangonels haha!
Map is playable as 2 on 1, or FFA. Have fun. Let me know what you think.
--------------------------------------------------
UPDATE:
I've had a couple requests on how to make this terrain. Here's a video tutorial. Enjoy!

Great map! Fantastic for those exciting 1v1v1 multiplayer games, and I've never seen that trick with apple farm. The map looks great, apples are very interesting, and it's playable! :)
Excellent work! ;) |

Can there be wild apple farms in Crusader? I've never seen or heard it before (especially in Crusader). Great map design! I will give it to my friends to play it in multiplayer! |

Wild apple trees, no longer relating to the farms, were possible only in the 1.0 version of Stronghold 1.
There are tablet maps with this feature. |

Wild apples aren't an official feature of Stronghold Crusader. This was an elevation trick to make the appearance of apple trees on the hills. |

Still, there is on flaw in singleplayer... :( Or at least at my PC: AI's who build apple farms, have almost no apples - they get only huts or huts with a little apple trees. Human in the other hand doesn't have this problem. Nevertheless, the map is still great! :) |

Playability: 4.5
This map is a easiy playable map 1v1v1 or 1v2. works well in multiplayer also.
Balance: 4
The balance of the map was good, but i felt that the opponent on the hill had an advantage over the other players.
Creativity: 5
One of the most creative maps ive ever seen. until i pushed the landscape down i thought you modded the map to do this. well done.
Map Design: 4.5
Great design with the hills deviding the areas of the three kingdoms. There is a problem with some of the A.I.s that have larger castles, they dont have enough room to build their castle, sometimes leaving holes you can walk right through. but with small enemies (i.e. the rat) it works well.
Story/Instructions: 4.5
I like creators who say how they came up with the map instead of just saying "here you go, heres my latest map"

Interesting. I play tested this one a few more times puting my keep on different spots. Sometimes the enemies can have full or partial apple orchards, sometimes not. I guess it varies with every game and can depend on how many trees have been cut down.
Thanks for testing this one out, Jt989 and EaglePrince. I'm experimenting more with apples and height tricks, and imagining some interesting things to do with it. I'll do another map with this technique in the future. |
