Border Guardian rev. 2

Author File Description
File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Number of Players: 6
Balance: Unbalanced
Difficulty: Hard
Made with version: 1.2
It's best to be played as 1 vs 5 skirmish with A.I(or others if you feels like being bullied by 5 combined force). Defending are easy, the hard part is to breach the joined castle of 5 enemies

-more resource for enemies and less for yours, a little terrain changes

-less resource for you, less grassland for you
-removed the troops & ballistas on your towers
-moderate terrain changes

return of Yasko When I first glimpsed this map on the download page, my first thought was, "Sigh...another skirmish map with pre-made castles...".

However, after playing it, I think it's a very fun map and worth keeping as an eyecandy/novelty map. I allied Saladin, Wolf, Lionheart, Emir, and Frederick against me with 40000 gold computer advantage!

Beautiful job on the castle. Even if it defies the laws of physics, the waterfall thing on the back looks very cool. The bridges were a nice touch. Usually the AI's don't work very well when crammed this close, but in this case they worked fine. They constantly attacked. I made dozens of dairy farms and it was fun raining 40 cows at a time onto oncoming troops :D

Even though multiple paths were given to the sides and back of your castle via bridges, the enemies still chose to do a frontal attack 99 percent of the time. They'd all bottleneck to the gate, where my crossbowman could pick them off easily. Its one thing to make it easy to defend, it's another to make it THIS easy.

It's just too easy. Even on 40000 computer gold advantage, and tons of troops, the computer fails to reach you. Skirmish maps are made not to have pre-made castle walls, but I think it'd be okay on this one if you do four things:

1. Don't line your towers/walls with any pre-existing troops. Let the person playing the skirmish map do that.

2. Reduce the amount of iron and stone even further. I was able to place 5 stone quarries and 6 iron mines which brought in tons of trade revenue.

3. Reduce the amount of grass available. I was able to build so many farms I could keep double rations going and be able to sell off extra food. Combine that with ale and monestary/church, I could keep the tax rate at +20. I made 20000 gold in no time. Just too easy....

4. Get rid of the river, wall, and gate in front of the castle. this way the enemies won't bottle-neck over the bridge and instead attack at different points on your castle.

This is a very different kind of map, and I like original maps. As is, the map is a fun little diversion, something where you can sit back and find interesting ways to pick off the enormous waves of troops that come at you. When sieging, the 5 enemies crammed together aren't that hard if you use the siege technique of housing mangonels and fire balistas under shields.

What I'd like to see though, is another version included that has the suggestions above to make it a bit more challenging.

This is a great first map. You have a good sense of landscape/castle aesthetic. If you'd like to do more maps with existing castles in them, you could try invasion or economic scenarios.
