Hey folks! This is my second map I'm uploading to the tubes. I hope you like, and leave a comment and stuff.
In this place-your-own-keep invasion scenario, you will have to build your own defenses to fight off devious attackers.

May be you forgot adding victory conditions. Didn't you? |

As a matter of fact, I did not forget that. Just checked. You must sit through the whole ride, my friend. |

Well, I sat through the "whole ride". Here goes:
Since it's a PYOK, I settled in the south-east corner with little space, but containing almost all I needed. Also easily defendable, or so I thought! I hadn't spotted the lions nearby, and suddenly they started to enter my little community. It took me 4 years(!) to get rid of them. My lords health got so bad that had anyone sneezed around him, he would have dropped dead! Finally, I had woodcutters killing off the remaining lions (that's a long process).
Not long after getting rid of the lions, a "good" sized group of bandits entered the community. They smashed half of it (as my lord wasn't about to challenge them), but then suddenly felt bored about the whole thing, and left. Sigh of relief!
Finally, I could get my economy in a higher gear (lower would have been impossible). The next group of bandits were fought off, and when the invasions started, I had a wall with manned towers and a gate. Then, out of the blue, enemy slaves appeared on the wall by the eastern border. There must have been a signpost at some stage in the design process, as all subsequent invasions of slaves appeared here. I deleted some wall, and the next waves stayed on the ground, where my engineers "baptized" them with burning oil. Survivors were picked off by my bowmen and x-bowmen. Fun at first, but a bit tedious after a while.
All other invasion forces turned up at other signposts, except for the second bandit attack, but quite a few of those invaders stayed at the signposts until the scenario ended with a victory screen. I was mostly attacked by missile troops, as I never saw any swordsmen - of either European or Arabian descent - near my defensive positions. Guess they must have been too intimidated! Wimps! :-)
I'll attribute the reason for some, if not all, of the problems described above, to my choice of location for the keep, but I'm not sure.
Fires and plagues are part of the package, and since the location I chose had very limited space, building density was high and caused violent fires. Even though I had 4 water pots, I still had to tear down buildings to prevent fires from getting out of control, and succeeded in most cases. Let's not talk about the rest, except they provided excellent opportunities for relocation of buildings. :-)
Despite all the discouraging events, and problems like the "wimpy" attackers, it was a fun - but very bumpy - ride! Go for it! |

I agree with fayez2010. The first time I played this, there were no Victory conditions/Objectives. A day later I loaded the same map & the Objectives/timer came up OK... very strange!
The map is very realistic looking, but offers far too many resources to be very challenging. Unlike Korsfarer Mogens, I built my keep in the centre & the only challenges come early on from the lions. Some slingers + the King sorted them out, while slaves dug the moat. With plenty of time to build your defences & army, I thought the invasions were too far apart & easily repulsed... but I guess that is about right for a difficulty level of Normal.
I look forward to some Difficult scenarios from you. |
