Im back for the first time in forever and couldn't be happier to be. I've finally resumed my map making and made a short little map to confirm my return.

This is a complete redo of one of my Oblivion map packs maps, one of the first maps I made. It looks 10x better and plays better aswell.
I spent ages making this map and I hope it was worth it.

I am still making my Sir Longarm maps and they should be out in a few weeks and not a few days for those who know me for throwing together terrible maps and uploading them.
Please enjoy this map and all the story and information is in the file.

File updated, I tried to make the map a whole lot harder, how, well you'll need to find out for yourself. I added some pictures and layout plans of Castle Anvil and bear in mind my castle is different because it is set an age later. And for any who are as bad as me by the time you have faced the last invasion your castle will be in complete ruins and your lord will be slaughtered and sent across the world in fifteen different pieces ;)

For any who havn't, please read the story before playing it will make the experience a whole lot better. Please enjoy :)

LegionHero I love Oblivion, so I downloaded the map and I played it.

The representation of the city is very well done. The buildings are arranged in the right way, and there is even the fountain. The river could perhaps be improved a bit, but the mountains and the ruins are full of details.

The map is fairly well balanced, and is playable at any difficulty. Unfortunately, the player just buy leather armor and crossbows to market and train fifty crossbowman. This makes the game a little too easy. The fire has caught me by surprise, destroying much of the city, shortly before the invasion.

However, it is a good map, well done ;)

Well actually I was thinking of doing a Skyrim castle and then going on to do traditional, historical castles. And carry out the rest of my Lotr campaign, so basically I have alot of work to do over the next two or so years.
LegionHero There is much work to do then. Skyrim, if possible, is even more beautiful than Oblivion.
If I were you I would aim not so much on the maps of LotR, there are already many. And some are really fantastic! (WarlLord design)

Make maps of Skyrim instead is more innovative, I would bet on that. Try Markarth. If you make it good, it'll be beautiful ;)

Just played your map, and enjoyed it.

Something must have gone sour in the update, or do you really want the player to wait 600 years for the victory screen? :-)

skurill First, I like your map, it is well done and there are some nice candies in it. And Iappreciate too, that your main interest is the stratetic part. But concincing? .... No. A main point is in my opinion, a map must be believable .... and your map isn't. In no way.

Tis should be an important city. A important city? Really? Puny four houses .... no gardens, no apple - trees, only bars and beer ..... so the inhabitants are alcoholics, well? Important cites are big narrow and full of people. Tis place is a pathetic place without interest .... why should I bother in conquer it? Most towns and catles gave up, because attackers destroyed the resources, but where are here resources?

attackers and defenders had often to fight in narrow alleyways .... here are no alleyways at all.

And the design of the town. It' a game-construct, but not a town at all.

As I said: A nice, but not convincing map.

How do you create a castle? Do you design first the landscape or the castle? Many people create seemingly first the castle and than the landscape. But tis is exact the wrong way. Ancient builders had in most of the cases no choice. They had to use the lines of the landscape to errect their strong and fortified buildings, and you should do this too.

There are also some rules about the structure of a castle, which you should bear in mind: Some walls and towers, spread all about a countryside? A narrow building without living or recreating space? Without shelter for the main tower-palace? You can design these, no problem. But castles ….. this aren’t castles, this are pure game-designs.

A castle was always a enclosed structure. It has inner and outer courtyards. And there the outer reaches were concieved as shelter of the main part, they should always surround the main buildings. Often a strong castle had three or more outer courtyards. They included the castle settlements of the peasants, churches , workshops, gardens, and outbuildings, all, what could be expendable. But some workshops, weaponry, the church of the lords and warehouses belonged also to the inner circle, to the main castle. Even if invaders had conquered the outer reaches, the castle was able to resist.

Some People like puzzles, and they use puzzle, putting them in the outer courtyard, but leaving the main tower without shelter. Nice and funny, and every invader would gratefully think: “Nice puzzles, really. But I have first more important things to do, killing the lord. Afterwards, may be, I will have time to solve the puzzle.”
So, be careful with puzzles and don’t relay on your tricky design …..
