Ériu 795AD
Ériu = Eire/Ireland
Donnchad Midi, the highest of the Irish kings, has been on a journey within the kingdoms, and at one occasion made camp at an uninhabited place. During the night, the high king had a dream of a magnificent monastery. The next day, he discussed the dream with the priests and monks amongst his followers. These men of God all agreed that it was a divine vision, and that the high king should erect a magnificent monastery at the site. The place was marked with a cross before leaving.
The high king has ordered you, a wealthy and high ranking subject, to go to the site and erect a monastery. Time is of no importance, as long as it will become the grandest in the kingdoms of Ireland. You are expected to oversee and pay for the construction yourself. You know, that this is the opportunity of a lifetime to really impress the high king, and secure you - and your family - an even higher status in the high kings court.
Your main goal is simple. Erect a monastery, and a small settlement to serve it and its inhabitants, the monks. Once the site has been established and secured, Abbot Mac will arrive with a small armed escort.
The detailed goals (normal setting):
1) Establish a settlement of at least 40 persons
2) Enclose the settlement
3) Provide for the settlement and the monastery by collecting
- 3000 Gold
- 80 Cheese
- 80 Bread
- 80 Meat
- 80 Ale
4) Make sure that at least 90% of the population is blessed, and have access to soothing ale
5) Once the above goals have been met, be sure to meet them for another 24 months (win timer)
Do what you see fit, but do not disappoint your king!
About the scenario:
The scenario is loosely based on the history of Ireland in the period beginning 795AD. Why this year? It was the year of the first Viking attack on Ireland (occurred on Rathlin Island), which would be followed by more raids penetrating further inland, and eventually occupation of parts of Ireland.
The scenario is scripted so that it will only react to your (the players) actions. If you choose to do nothing*, that's exactly what will happen!
*it's not a winning strategy! ;-) |

Editing the former comment because I cant post a new one
After fixing the map and the scenario by allowing
stone walls and towers, crossbow making, leather making, all market items exchangeable, stone quary
iron mine, bigger plain, starting gold, weapons, food and ale,(remember this is an expedition not a picnic),a stone keep
on normal difficulty I had constant droughts, cow and hops deseases, a swarm of macemen bandits
fires that burned nearly everything every time
I've managed to beat this thing
The apples saved my granary supplies because otherwise I wouldnt last in that environment. And the crossbowmen and stone walls were invaluable.
thanks for keeping it unlocked though. [Edited on 11/16/12 @ 09:06 AM]

Hi Lord Stafeft
The scenario is indeed playable, even on the very hard setting. Have you tried the easy setting?
Regarding your complaints:
- You do not need bows. Peasants don't handle bows well. Arm them with something else.
- Wooden walls and gatehouses are available.
- Wells are available, and there's not that many fires, and certainly not napalm (pitch maybe?).
- Lots of grassland, and certainly enough for both bread and ale production.
- Despite the terrain, it is possible to place dairy farms within reasonable distance from the monastery.
- What else do you need as starting goods? We always wish for more, but usually we'll have to do with what we have!
It is the kings orders, but "your" expedition. Please read the story again! |
