The old and brave Rat

Author File Description
kayuz Firstly this is my inaugaration topic, i'm Gabriele and i'am from Italy, and older lover of the stronghold series. :D
This is a aiv for the rat that pick up the old rat's castle present in the first game of the series.
It's a bit more strong then his real castle, it has two fire's ballista and more...
if anyone wants to try it out i will happy ;)
report problems or other things, if try ;)

PS: Pic is in the rar file ;)

UPDATE V2, now is a bit better, more ballistas, a tower on the back with ballista and high crenel on the town walls.
If you want, please try it out ;)

UPDATE V3 Is out, try it, i think now it's the best possible from this design, anyone if wants test and feedback :D
PIC is also here

Heroesflorian looks good :) when i see your screenshot, i immediately think of the SH1 campaign and that rats castle!

I only fear that the SHC-Rat (as he almost never properly mans his towers), may have troubles defending this castle. A third fire ballista on the other side of the castle would probably fine. But, doesn't matter that much, as Rat will always have trouble with defending. :)

But this time, Rat has at least an enclosed castle, a gatehouse, no stairs leading outside, no buildings outside the walls, and the keep is not attached to any outer walls - and this is, for a Rat, a massive fortess already in comparison to his standard castles! :D

Nice design!

Thanks you so much for try it! i want to do some modifications later, i think some fire ballista and the right late will be useful for the rat, beacouse i try this aiv and try it in many skirmish, and the two fire allistas in front of the the main gate aren't that useful, beacouse is better break his caastle from the right long late.
Thanks you again for trying it! :D

I charge my next update of the aiv, please someone, try it :)
Heroesflorian I had a short look at the aiv in the aiv editor now.

Some things that could be improved:
- The new square tower has 1 high, 1 crenelated, 1 high wall behind - why? Instead, I'd suggest to move the tower "back" by two tiles and put some wall in front of the tower (as ai repairs walls pretty quickly, but does not repair towers at all).

- You place the gates very late, after almost everything else has been build, including crenelated walls. Place the gates earlier, and maybe add a small pause (this will make sure Rat doesn't say "I only have 9 stones right now, I'll build some of the crenellations now and the gate later.") after that, to ensure the castle gets enclosed quickly.

- Maybe add a few more poleturners (as they are a good way for Rat to make some money by buying wood and selling spears, and Rat usually makes quite few money).

- You added some troop spots for spearman and archers outside the castle - seems a bit strange to me...

- For siege engines (trebuchets, mangonels, (fire) ballistae), only the spots 1-3 will be actually used ingame for whatever reason (this is the same for any aiv for any of the ai characters). Thus, placing more than 3 fire ballistae spots is practically useless.

- You added troop spots for engineers with boiling oil to the square tower, 2 of the small towers and one gate. But to get boiling oil, there must be an oil smelter and you don't have one placed in this castle ;) Moreover, Rat will tend to buy 4 pitch, sell it again, buy it again, sell it again... what makes the Rat lose quite a lot of gold. Consider this and rethink, if the boiling oil spots are worth this (they may, I haven't watched the castle ingame yet, but I am not sure if they are).

Ai players can - in contrast to human players - mount more than one siege engine on a tower, so you could do that with the square tower. But that's just an idea. Moreover, you could add some killing pits or dog cages in the castle or around the gates.
