Playability: 4/5. The second instalment of the Lord Gray Rider series sees an established castle area that you must defend. No economic requirements feature here. In addition that, there is a nice start to the map with the introduction of the crossbow design and the ability to recruit crossbowmen. The map plays well. There are three invasions to deal with, each posing problems and in particular the siege equipment and defensive shields. It's a good little map and fits in perfectly with the storyline.
Balance: 3/5. The key here is the ability to recruit crossbowmen. Their added power allows you to defend the castle walls (which are very thick) and as a result I didn't suffer a breakthrough throughout the map. The invasions are decent in size, but would have been even better if they were larger in size. I played on the normal setting per the download description page. Replaying on very hard added a lot more to the map and there were times where you wondered if you were going to survive.
Creativity: 3/5. Continuing the theme of the series deserves credit here and the story is shaping up nicely. Another generally good effort by the author to provide a sequence of maps. The message events are very good and lifted the score.
Map Design: 3/5. Again, fine. The castle area is well done and there is a real 'feel' to the map. I would have preferred to see more done with the terrain modelling tools as some areas were a little bland, but that's all.
Story/Instructions: 4/5. Another very well thought out story to entice you and it follows on from chapter 1 very well. It is clear that thought has been put into the series and the author has done a good job of introducing you to the chain of events that will unfold.
IN SUMMARY: A good progression from chapter 1 and a decent map in it's own right. I would recommend playing on a harder setting though.
