History Castle Grillenburg

You are part of the history of Grillenburg, a castle with a living history. Although it really exists and the map based on it, the map is not a model of Grillenburg. The History is complete fictional.

My maps are more simulations than stratetic fights. As simulations, they are as real as possible und represents always the lifetime of a ruler. You are this ruler, and your task will be to survive the time. These times will be sometimes very peacefully ( ;.)) may be, to peacefully), sometimes you will have nearly no chance.

There are changes in the scripting. Your castle has now only weak defenses, and it is up to you, if and in which way you build up your army or if you neclect it und concentrate on the economy. At the End of the introduction you will find your tasks and all possible hardship which could hit you.

History and Introduction:

Stohertug Rolvidus the VIII built around 1217 Fortress Grillenburg to the southeast Norgias to secure power and influence. Even then the Dukes of Sangerhausen try to destroy the fortress. Also residents of conquered counties rebelled again.
Rotvidus died childless in 1260. A grandson of the Jarl , stohertug Hildger, receives the castle as a ruleship. Since Hildger is young and inexperienced, Willibald, Duke of Sangerhausen decidesto a major attack in several waves and destroy Norgias barrier fortress.

1261 - 1278: Time of the young heros (17 years)

You are Stohertug Hildger, (pig) and you know that you have to prove yourself. In the south of Obertaurien, the Duke Sangerhausen accumulated a powerful army and will attack you in several waves. Yet it is quiet, and help comes, but it will not stay calm. Your spies tell you his army has finished their preparations and is on their way . ..
Introduction: This is a war mission. You only have a few years, use them well. Even though the enemies are slow, they are powerful, coming in waves. Initially you will receive support from the Jarl, but then you're on your own. Your enemies are near .... and they will come just with fire ...

It would be really nice to get some comments. It is hard to make something better ;-)) or mor worse, if there is no kind of resonance.

Anyway: The castles own now far less soldiers, so that they could at least resist one invasion, but can't handle more, and the restrictions of the resources are far heavier. The events are connected and tightened in bundles , which are lasten far longer tnan before and have deeper consequences.
palat If you're still around, I'm currently trying out this map. Let me know if you want a review.
palat Alright, I've played it through on normal difficulty. To be honest, it's hardly impossible. This is mostly due to a combination of factors:
1) Terrain. Both signposts are to the right of the river. The fact that the invasions tend to spawn in the swamp means that a good portion of the enemy army gets bogged down and picked off by my xbows, before they get a chance to attack.
2) The fact that there are choke points along the river makes it very, very easy to control enemy movement. In other words, the choke points allow the player to basically create another set of walls at very little cost.
3) Allowing stone walls. This basically makes the choke points invincible.

On a positive note, I like the map's historical connection. The design is pretty convincing and a little deviation is not a bad thing.

palat One more thing. Starting gold is just OP. I easily hired over a hundred xbows by setting bribes on max until the economy was running flawlessly, then alternating between no rations and half rations, with +2 to +4 ale bonus all along.

Sorry for double post (triple post? derp) I can't remember when the system started stopping users from second edit

Thank you for your comment. Honestly, I wrote, I'm not a stratetic, and I am no one. I'm developing this castles over long years, of course not every day, week or monthe, but they were always simulations. And as long I don't get feedbacks, I couldn't improve the maps.

And:

I lost this castle. I would never have got the idea of hiring hundreds of bowmens and giving much bribes.

and you will see, I react to comments like yours.

I changed the map, according to your comments:

So you will find more starting points in this map, you will have no chance, to build stonewalls, and you can't buy wood.

I appreciate further comments, may be to others castles, too.

palat Wow, fast reply, thanks! Anyways I'll dl your new version. Like I said before, if you want an official review, just let me know

If you like to write a review, it would be nice. But I am still interested in comments. As I said before: I am more a builder of castles than a conquerer of them. I changed the scripts already several times in the last months. But if I don't kwow, what doesn't work, I can't change it. And my abilities as a defender .... ;-)) Well, some of the castles, published on this site, are now ruins in my files and completely destroyed ....

Besides: The orignal Castles are in reality often ruins, sometime nothing more than some piles of stones. The plans are often marginal. This gives space for designing, and the appearance of the terrain gives hints, how the castle could have been layed out.
