Weapons From Ruins is not a siege map, it is actually an economic scenario. With that noted Ember has done a fine job at creating a well-paced game that is fun to play.
Playability 5/5 this is a decent little mission. After you have completed the castle it is fairly easy to beat. The challenge is in getting the walls of your fortress built. Several wolves and bears are placed around the map. The real threat however, is in the numerous and large wolf attacks early on. In the later stages there are some bandit raids but by that point you should be strong enough to fend them off easily. In fact the last two waves attacked only my quarries and then retreated. These were the only erratic AI movements and otherwise game play is smooth. Playing on a hard level of difficulty. I achieved victory on my second attempt. This was fun to play and on the whole a very good map.
Balance 4/5 Generally some very good work. Starting funds make life a bit easy but you are limited in what you can purchase and sell. The castle has to be built in stone, which is a good thing as wood is plentiful. The author has chosen to place several bad things around the map. There is no reason in the story line for this.I chose to simply eliminate these items to rid my game of their negative effects. A little to much of the castle is completed for you. This gives the player the option of demolishing these given fortifications and putting the stone to better usage. There is just enough stone to complete the side of the castle that most of the wolf attacks come from. One gatehouse less and this would not have been possible.
Creativity 3/5 A solid effort in the map and a good scheduling of events in the editor makes this map stay interesting. Several goals that need to be accomplished also make it a challenge. The author gives you help in the form of outlaws returning to your cause. These units are killed by wolves however before they can reach the safety of your settlement. This is not such a bad thing, as they would have made the mission a bit too easy IMO. However their whole existence in this map is kind of pointless. Perhaps this aspect would have been better used had it been part of the storyline.
Map Design 4/5 there is some good work in this department. The terrain has some nice detail and shows a real effort has been applied. What is offered is a pleasing and well-rendered landscape capable of sustaining your settlement. The boulders placed for your quarries are a bit to close to the castle. Once you get them up and running they quickly produce more than enough stone to get your castle completed. Afterwards they are a ready supply of revenue.
Story/instructions 3/5 Some playing notes should have been included. There is a decent short story offered on the launch page. Only average work in this department. Some more creative writing is needed to achieve a top score in this category.
In Short- a well thought out and enjoyable economics mission. I am not quite sure why it is posted as a siege. That aside this is a decent map that shows some good effort.

The map is completely identical with "The Ruins" in the ecomomic scenarios section.
