This is indeed a great map, I tried it, and everything looks great! You used the space quite well, the landscape is great, and there are lots of those nice details. I also like the oasis you made in south-east, and how you made that stone (for quarries) in middle of the map.
It will be interesting playing it from northwest position, but from any other position as well! |

Lemme have a look at this. My skirmish skills leave much to be desired. But this could be quite fun.
EDIT: Took my first run with it - in the top left. I had the Abbot, Richard, and Phillip as allies, and the Emir, the Caliph, and the Wazir as enemies.
Not a lot of space in the top corner - or rather, it's very twisted. On the other hand, the height advantage is nice, but inconsequential. Richard and the Emir faced off in the middle - and the Abbot killed the Emir (which surprised me!).
It was a fun, but a somewhat easy game. I don't know if that was just because of my choices, but I think the top will have a much easier time than the bottom.
Was there any particular way the teams were to be divvied up?
I will test another game, and I think then I will give a review.[Edited on 02/14/15 @ 08:27 PM]

Great landscape, well done. I hardly move around but that's not big problem. Playabillity is very good, I can play 1-6, 3-3-1, 1-3-3, etc. Overally awesome map.
P.S.
In short description you wrote 8 player, lol.

Nah there is not a particular way the teams are supposed to be divided up but I suggest you do this set up:
Your Gold: 2000
AI Gold: 8000
1 2 3 4
5
6 7
*= team you are in
1 - Caliph*
2 - You*
3 - Pig**
4 - Wolf**
5 - Snake***
6 - Wazir***
7- Saladin***
The top left corner doesnt have that much space but most AI castles are built properly (only Pigs and Sherrifs didnt work on my test runs on it).
Yes the top players will have an easier time because they have the height advantage, although the top left player doesnt occupy the entire area he has big oasis space around him and more resources near that small lake area.
Originally the first keep that I created on this map was number 7 and is my favourite one on the map :p.[Edited on 02/15/15 @ 11:25 AM]

I'll try it the way you suggested - although one would think that lone Snake in the middle will have a rough go of it.
I also tried a 3v4, this time on the bottom. Me and the Marshal occupied the bottom (he took the bottom left corner). The Lionheart was in the middle. We were pitted against the Sheriff (middle), Emir (top left), Wazir (right), and Caliph (far right). Gold was even.
I ultimately topped out at 210 peasants, and less than 10000 gold. I had to save the Lionheart from the Sheriff, build him a new castle, and fill the towers with crossbows and Arab bows. After we took out the Sheriff, I launched an attack against the Emir (and you're right, not a big advatage to him; I could take out most of his towers with trebs), and then the Marshall, Lionheart, and I all wailed on the Wazir, and finished off the Caliph.
While that still wasn't too hard, I did occasionally run out of gold. And Lionheart and Marshal clearly would have lost if I had not saved them.
Now I'll try your play. Sounds hard; I've never given the computer a full advantage. |

SO,i just played this map today. And for your first map, this looks fantastic. Even much better than mine :). I played twice actually. i have to say that ai who's build a large castle will be troubled if was put in the north west and east corner. Frederick build his front towers separately thus can't man his tower properly(he uses his smallest tower, the one without siege enggines) and Abbott cant complete his castle and were lacking hovels because he cant build it due to the landscape in northeast corner |

After testing this map a couple of times, here are my comments:
Playability: 4
This is a fun map to play, even in SP. I have never been in the middle, but I imagine that's a rough ride (Emir was SMASHED by Lionheart first time around!, and Lionheart woulda died if I hadn't interfered second time). But even that cliff dweller in the top-left has it pretty good; there's plenty of space to build. It's a fun map, indeed.
One thing, though: the deer on the map did make my computer lag with all 7 players. It's an old beast with only 1.5 GB RAM and an outdated 256MB NVIDIA card. But just a note.
Balance: 4
It is labelled as unbalanced. And it can't well be balanced as a 7 player map. But it seems to me the top has a distinct advantage, especially with that wild card off to the right. But otherwise the resources are placed quite well.
Creativity: 4
That wild card to the top right is the real unique feature of this map. It would be a boring old even teams map. But because of that slot, this map can be an irritant, in a good way. Spurs you on to play it - to be challenged by it.
Map Design: 4.5
The design is good. No bugs, no flaws. I like the abundance of grass, and rocks in the right places. Again, not earth-shattering, but good. One thing, though: the deer again. They can make it annoying when you try to build, especially in the top-left on that cliff. And again, they did make my ancient machine lag.
Story/Instructions: 4
It's a short story (I won't reveal it), succinct, and sufficient. It's a cute story, and I liked it.
Additional Comments:
A fun map. Doesn't make any new horizons. But it meets the standards for a great skirmish map, even in single-player. |
