You are a retired privateer from King Henry VIII's forces and you must establish your leadership on the island that he has granted you for your service. You must clear the animals that have taken over the land and repel the pirates who would use it as a bolthole. Henry may have given you the land, but he expects you to provide him with goods from such a resource rich land. Good luck!
Keep your eye open for further installments both in economic settings and invasion. Only time will tell how well this fair island will survive!

Playability: 4/5. Lovely little map! Great fun throughout and kept me interested. The events are smoothly put together and seem to crop up just when you weren't expecting them. Fires are a problem and I lost a fair few buildings, despite plenty of wells. I liked this aspect, though. Achievable win criteria in a decent time span ensures that there's always something to be done and the map doesn't go on for too long.
Balance: 4/5. I lost on my first attempt at this map. Don't underestimate the wolves initially, they can really pose problems! There are bandit attacks in decent sizes and frequencies to cause problems. I opted for archers on towers to defend the castle alone, which worked with a few losses. Economically the goals are realistic when played on normal setting and there was a good balance obtained in terms of what you can grow/produce and what the market will alllow you to sell.
Creativity: 4/5. It's clear that thought has gone into this map from the start. Whilst there is nothing radically new here to other maps, it's the way that the map has been set up that appeals to me. It's quality work, from the design through to the events and the win criteria. I particularly liked the opening of the map, with the manor house surrounded by trees making it tricky to build anything substantial in terms of castle defences and farms until the woodcutters have gone into action.
Map Design: 4/5. Very well designed map, from the terrain which is pretty good to the layout. Perfect size for the theme. Some good work on the coastline (liked the little bay area) and a good effort at producing a woodland island theme.
Story/Instructions: 4/5. Effort continued into the story. It's interesting and captivating, perfectly readable and well thought out. A good intro the map as a whole.
IN SUMMARY: Liked this from start to finish. Recommended. |

This is a super economic game design that keeps you playing and clicking throughout!
I agree with the previous rating by Sulis and I'm willing to bolster that a little in the Creativity and Story categories. Passion gives us a believable set of circumstances and the reason for building up this island community. The lord has retired... imagine that!
The scenario is well written and the goals are sensible. Like Sulis, I used archers throughout the game and it worked out pretty well once I started using the market. Up ‘til that time the bandits were eating me alive. I didn't build any castle walls to complete the game since there are plenty of hills on the map but I put up a couple of small wooden towers toward the end just to be on the safe side.
The map is very pleasing to look at and it focuses on an eye-catching hot spring that's placed right in its center. It was this feature that kept my mind returning to the story again and again.
Terrific job, Passion. Thanx

This was a very difficult mission to complete. With a large amount of bandits coming back and back again, it was very hard to get things set up and running. While I found the mission fun and challenging, I thought that it could have been a bit more balanced – giving the player a few ‘good’ events to balance the attacks. I am glad to be able to write this review because I knew that in doing so I actually finished the game! Onto part two I guess. |

Overall - lots of fun, but not a repeater.
Playability - Fun, but not too challenging. This isn't one that has me waking up at 2am saying "aha, I'll try that!". Doesn't require too much thinking.
Balance - on 'Normal' level, I found this too easy. The bandits I could keep under control and there weren't really any other obstacles.
Creativity - A few more things going on and this would have been a very exciting and challenging mission. Close, but not quite - so I rate it a 3.
Map - Excellent! This is a stunning island, beautifully thought out!
Story - I like the idea, and there's definite potential for an ongoing story (looking forward to playing part 2!). Well written too, so it gets a 5. |

The exciting scenario plays like an eco-invasion. Half of the efforts goe into defence. First I smiled about the huge amount of initial gold. Soon I noticed I had bought too few bows. On very hard, the bandits come in in good numbers, unstoppable for a long time. With a Lord who lacks half of his hitpoints from the start, I was in a state of alert.
Many fires exact their toll, too. Never lost so many buildings to the flames in a single player.
Determination is rewarded.
There is wood enough. The market can be used in a clever way: few things to sell but some crucial goods to buy. Slowly St Brendan's Island becomes a lovely and safe place.

I was passing by out of curiousity and noticed the minimap graphic link, originally placed by the author, was dead. So I took the liberty of adding the minimap. In the process I had to guess that the version used was v1.1 (the update form insists that the version is now added) |
