Gladiator is one of my favourite movies aside from Lord of the rings. I made this map to create an open warfare feeling and to recreate the opening scene of that great movie gladiator. I don't know if anyone has done this before but i hope you like it. Please give suggestions and comments. Thanks

The Map and Premise: both very good!

Game Play:

As ATTACKER: No contest. You simply overwhelm the defenders.
As DEFENDER: From the very beginning, shift your forces to set up a skirmish line to the North. Mow down the enemy as they attack in small waves. When they stop coming North, you should be able to easily counterattack the remaining forces in the South. (HINT: especially if you saved 1-2 catapults and a few archers!) I never even used those 4 dogs that were in the kennel to the North.

I found this map to be lacking a great deal. Although the storyline is good it was much to easy in either attacker or defender. The attack only took me about 8 to 10 minutes to complete the scenario. As a defender it also only took a few minutes. Certainly something more could be added. With that being said I have scored the playability of the map as average.

Balance is also just average. There really is not real challenge, and as an attacker the play is much to easy. As a defender you do have to locate a few of your troops but again very simple. Again I rated the balance as average.

I liked the story idea and the open concept. Its to bad there was really no way of controlling the outcome. I added a bonus point here for creativity

The map itself is rather plain, nothing that jumps out at you for the oooos and awws of some other rated maps. This is certainly average.

The story was interesting and I did add a bonus point in that area, but with the tip on catapults, I could not see justifying a five..

I fail to underdstand how this map ever got around 5.0 - even for when it was made. The map is lacking in a lot of areas. It is small, there is a line of pitch (that you cant light), a spaced out line of archers and a spaced out line of swordsmen and put in quite well a group of knights in the forest at the top. There are also a few catupults that to be honest add very little to map - more a creative touch. That is it really, although it is not completely dull. The map does have a good playable and creative touch to it. Their spearmen and macemen and it gives a quite dull battle. They charge in one main line against your spaced horizontal line - it doesn't work to well. However it is quite close but it is not hard to balance a map when there are only a group of defenders and no walls what so ever. A bit of storyline avaidable so an ordianry. I am sorry for being so critical but it is the truth - a lot of work has to be done. Put in some lowered palisade, have more defenders, make the line stronger where they penetrate and so on. Its not beyond you. Some nice stuff - just quite a lot to work on.

Why is this map in the top 10? I can think of lots of maps that are better than this.
Playability: 1/5
You can win without pressing a button. It's a movie!
Balance: 1/5
Even on very hard, as stressed above, you can win.
Creativity: 3/5
Just for the fact, It works you get a 3. I mean to make a film takes a bit of work, right...Right...RIGHT??????
Map Design: 1/5
An unaccessable fort, a few trees, and lots and lots of grass. Just a 'little' more effort needed here!
Story: 2/5
OK, good sign, you wrote 'something', I emphasise 'something'. It might as well have been a copy of the opening credits of the film.

How much did you pay the other guys to give this a 5? It is completely not worth being in the top 10 downloads. Compare this map to some of the great works of Helms deep and Secrets of Slyvandell, why, oh why?

I think you'll agree with me. The top 10 is for maps of outstanding quality, maps that shine in brilliance, and all who look upon them are in awe of these creations. Why, then, is this map in the top 10?

Playability: 1/5
A few troops against a few troops. Come on. We need more.

Balance: 2/5
This map is too fixed in the way it needs to be played to win, there is no real flexibility. However the balance isn't terrible for defending, just not good!

Creativity: 1/5
There is nothing new here, nothing to make me want to play the map again. What exactly are we supposed to be defending anyway? The fort at the top of the hill is inaccessable. Why not retreat up there and make rude hand gestures at the enemy as they feebly attempt to scale a vertical cliff?! Most good maps have 10-50 hours work. A decent designer could have made this in less than 1 hour.

Map design: 2/5
You did use some of the tools in the Stronghold editor. We need a lot more in this map though, a few ruins, a village, a waterfall? The terrain is very bland and the fort at the top of the hill adds nothing to the map. Whats that useless line of pitch that you can't set on fire for anyway?

Story/Instructions: 1/5
Who? What? Where? Why? Consider these when writing a story. Otherwise, Whats the point? Why defend a sinking ship? Why stand out in a storm? The story here was virtually non-existant. You only said about the map being from Gladiator.

Why is this map in the top 10? Why has it been given anything higher than a 3? I can think of lots of other maps that deserve a place in the top 10 more than this. A dissapointment all round. Gladiator is an action film. Give us action. A siege has a castle. Give us a castle. A top 10 map is good. Make it worth it.

Sad to say, I'd guess this map is in the top ten because of the recognizability of the name. This is unfortunate, but you can't really tell much about a map usually from the description someone gives.

The concept has a lot of possibilities, but I wouldn't say in Siege. To keep with the movie, you'd have a lot of spearmen/footman, parties of Knights riding in to break them up, deep woods where parties of enemy would hide and you would have to seek them out to complete the mission, you could rig up small towers for archers to start "forest fires" and burn huge areas, killing your troops, strategically placed war dogs, wood traps throughout traffic areas. Basically, it would be a combination seek-and-destroy and free-for-all in open areas. Small invasion events could reinforce the enemy periodically. The "Blue" team might be allowed a small base to recruit more archers and spearmen, but no more Knights. Macemen, Pikemen, Crossbowmen and Swordmen wouldn't be used probably, to keep with the theme. An enemy camp with several Halls where you could kill the Generals would be cool. All kinds of possibilities present themselves, suggested by the movie. I can't say that this map realizes any of them. Sorry to be negative.
