Playability: 2/5

Unfortunately, this map suffers from bad event scheduling and no real challenge in terms of winning. To win on any difficulty level, you are required to achieve ale coverage of 7%. You start with placing your keep and granary, whilst the stockpile fills with goods, including a barrel of ale. Plenty of wood and starting gold means that you can place an inn close to the stockpile and within a couple of months of starting, achieve victory. Game over. The map really screams out for more of a challenge and more win criteria (as well as a lose condition to be included). It's unfortunate, but even playing this through and not building an inn initially means many game years of waiting around for something to happen.

Balance: 1/5

In light of the above, I really can't give this any higher score. To face such an easy win condition with nothing to do to allow the game to be interesting is strange. The map would really benefit from a number of win criteria and more events to test you, but ensure that they are frequent or regular enough to allow periods of 'building' time, i.e. quieter periods where you can work on increasing the size and capacity of your settlement. Too many starting goods, an unlimited market place and iron deposits placed in an unaccessible location for mines to be accessed by workers can easily be remedied.

To the author

I'd strongly recommend that you download a good selection of maps available here and look into how they are formed, with market restrictions, starting goods, events and win criteria. There are many, many good maps to choose from, and anything by Jayhawk, Lord Yoshi and recently Passion, will be a good place to start with an economic scenario.

Creativity: 2/5

Difficult to rate this section of the map. Whilst it is hard to give a score for creativity in a map that doesn't really work or offer any sort of a challenge, I did notice that there is potential here for a really good scenario and the map design itself isn't bad. Practice will no doubt pay off for future submissions though.

Map Design: 2/5

There is clear evidence here that the author has tried to provide an interesting landscape. Some use of terrain tools and a decent coastal setting scores well for me. The map has a pretty good feel to it. Try to use smaller brush sizes in places to rid the clumsy appearance of large brush strokes. It will certainly increase the look of the map and allow a better score for future submissions.

Story/Instructions: 2/5

No real content here and unfortunately the story doesn't really reflect the way that the map could play out. Some content is certainly better than nothing. I would consider introducing the map with a short, made-up story if this is a ficticious scenario and maybe an intro outlining what the player can expect. Also bear in mind that a well designed map can be enhanced by an interesting scenario. Most downloaders will look at the description page first to see what the map will be like. This is the area where you can really sell a scenario. It doesn't have to be a novel, as long as it is captivating.

It's always difficult to give a poor score for a map, and I try where possible to look for some good points and to offer a few snippets of advice to assist in future designs. This could be a cracking little map if it were to be expanded and made more difficult. As it stands, it doesn't offer anything to the downloader and really screams for more work to be done on it. You may wish to upload a newer version of this bearing in mind the advice and points made above. If you do, I will be happy to review the map again and change the scores to reflect the new submission.

This map has the chance to be a really great mission. The only problem is that once you place the Inn, the mission is over. There is nothing at all challenging about it. I would love to see this mission fixed up a whole bunch!
peter2008 As economic mission, this is a joke. (Perhaps it is a castle builder). Placed an inn immediately and won the game after 3 months.
