Action take place in 1040. Your young nephew, Guillaume de Jumièges is your Duke since a few years. Many lords,because of the new duke’s young age, plot against him.
As you are is dear uncle he give you a fief. In a order to thanks him, you decide a treason to take the duchy for yourself.
There is a castle in your new land, but it’s badly damaged and was never repaired mostly because normand’s invasions are now not to be feared (of course, sic) and because of lack of founds. In order to achieve your plan, you have to rebuild the castle, store bows and swords to raise an army, fill your granary in case of siege and to support a campaign, find money to bribe others lords and have their support, and ale both for your army than to offer an extra gift to your futures allies.
Diplomatic contact with the king ensure you his support. However don’t expect important help. The king is rather weak, but worst he probably dont play a fair game. The better you can hope from him is a little help. The king certainly want use you to weaken the duchy of a too powerful vassal, and send you just enough to maintain balance between the duke, and the rebels lords to maintain a calamitous civil war in the duchy. Trust only your strengh, even care about underground action from supposed allies !
Because you are impatient to rule the duchy, and over all because you are not immortal, you don’t have unlimited time to achieve your life’s goal : being the duke.
Last, be careful. After all your nephew is your own family. Possibly, even considering his young age, could he be worst
than you. Anyway he will not be a teenager forever.
