Food Production

This section contains those structures that can be found on the Farm tab of the structure bar. All these buildings have to do with producing food for your hungry populace.

Hunter's post

This is the most primitive way to gather food and will be available in many of the early missions. It's manned by a plucky archer, who looks like Robin Hood's cousin, and his faithful dog.
In a pinch the two of them will even help out in defense of the castle, by attacking wolves and enemy soldiers. They don't take much of a beating, but are easily replenished if you have enough peasants available.

Dairy Farm

These farms are a great opportunity to add to your food production, as they can be placed on relatively poor soil, i.e. the darker grass. The cows will give you cheese, and leather for the tanner to make armour. However, in the latter case, your production will drop.
They take a little while to get up to speed, but should provide a steady source of food later on, unless mad cow disease strikes.

Apple Orchard

Easiest of the farms, these pretty looking rows of trees need to be placed on better soil, i.e. the deep green stuff. The trees grow quickly and bear fruit several times a year.
They require the least resources to be built and are a fairly safe form of crop...unless witches happen to be abroad.

Wheat Farm

Wheat farms are needed if you want to sustain large populations. It takes a while for them to get going, but once they do you have a steady source of wheat. These too need to be placed on prime soil. As with all farms, you have to take into account that the longer the walk to the granary/storage area, the less effective production a farm has.
Wheat farms are expensive and prone to grain blight and rabbits.

Hop Farm

A different kind of farm, the hop farm is used not for food but...for drink. The hops will be taken to the brewer who turns it into that nectar of the gods known as ale.
Your people will love you for it.
