The Abbot

by Ztolk*

The Abbot considers himself entrusted with the defense of his faith. His vindictive monks will continually amass in vast numbers to pull down the walls of their enemies.

Nicknames: Abbot of Stirling, Abbot of Dumfries, Abbot of Kirkbride, Abbot of Ayr, Abbot of Leith, Abbot of Dunbar, Abbot of Clyde, Abbot of Montrose

Difficulty: Easy

Missile troops built: Archers

Melee troops built: Only monks, built by the hundreds and thousands.

Siege engines built: Catapaults and Ballistae

Castle Rating: *
Builds rectangular castles with thick walls and towers at the corners, but does not put crenellations on the walls. He will occasionally build another rectangular courtyard in his castle, connecting it to the one surrounding the keep with a large gate. The castle will be defended by ballistae and archers, and the keep and area around the cathedral will be swarming with monks.

Tactics: Be prepared to fight off seemingly endless amounts of monks. I've seen him send a wave of about 800 at me. Fortunately, monks are slow and die with a few archer or crossbow shots, so just have about 20 archers and he won't be able to get near you. Of course, more is better. When you want to attack him, a good strategy is to build a siege tower and a LOT of infantry. Tell the tower to mount his uncrennelated walls, then put your infantry and bowmen on top. It's probably pretty easy to clear the keep using missile fire, and a large infantry when told to attack the keep usually kills the Lord.
