Notes
The first mission of Saladin’s Conquest starts with an attack on the city of Damascus. Throughout this campaign, you will be introduced to Arabian troops and will need to approach attacking and defending slightly differently from the first campaign, which relied heavily on the standard, Crusader troops. The hints indicate that you shouldn’t attack the city head-on, and I would agree with this. Whilst it is possible to take the city this way, you will have more success if you combine all the slingers with your archers and move them to the left side of the map. Moving towards striking distance of the tower there, use this combined force to take out the archers that are present. Whilst slingers aren’t particularly powerful, in numbers they can be useful. At the same time, move the battering ram to the left of the map and approach the tower you are attacking. The ram can be protected here and you can take down the tower for an easier entry into the castle.
I noticed that the Arabian bows (archers) were able to pick off the slingers and Arabian swordsmen that were standing on top of the main gatehouse into the city. Don’t move any of your troops until they have been either weakened or better still, killed off by the bows.
For the final assault, move your bows and slingers into the castle and ask them to climb the stairs on the front wall. Move some slingers near to the other tower at the east of the map and take the enemy bows out from here. With this done, it’s a simple case of moving your slingers and bows to striking distance of the keep, easily achieved by keeping them on the walls, to take out the few Arabian swordsmen that are stationed here. A relatively easy victory, with few losses, but this is only the beginning!
