Greetings to all. I believe I've come up with an answer to that age old question of how to change colors. I'm surprised to have not seen anyone else talk about this technique, as it is quite simple.
In the stronghold 2 folder, you need to go to shaders, then Units. In the Units folder, there are 2 files of interest. TeamColour, and TeamCrest. If you duplicate crest, and rename it TeamColour, (be sure to back up the file first) then anywhere the color shows up, your crest will be shown instead.
There are some drawbacks, of course. The crest will not show up perfectly, or even in the same orientation depending on the unit. But if you don't mind overlooking a few things, you can now change your team color to anything you want. You can add stripes, patterns, or symbols to your crest, and it will show up in game.
(if anyone has already posted a similar post, sorry for a duplicate)
Note* peasants will also have their pants changed to the crest, and some worker units will turn black.
