Stronghold Kingdoms has been announced with the usual fanfare across the net.

The official sites are:
Stronghold Kingdoms Facebook

Firefly Studios Stronghold Kingdoms Forum

There are 4 screenshots floating around presently all of which can be found at the official site.

They reveal new and redesigned buildings, a county map, a research tree, and a siege.
Live the life of a medieval lord in the world's first castle based MMO. Besiege the castle that's never been taken, overthrow tyrants, bankroll your factions war effort, pillage your neighbour's resources, peacefully raise sheep or do it all! The choice is yours in a wide ranging simulation of medieval life, played out in real time against thousands of online opponents striving for power and glory.

A unique hybrid of web and PC based gaming brings online interactivity and community together with a richly depicted medieval world of thriving villages and dramatic battles. Build a kingdom over days and weeks. A mix of real time gameplay with long term planning, bring a truly novel twist to the Strategy genre.

"Stronghold Kingdoms is the game I've always wanted to play, ever since I was a boy staring up at castles!" said Simon Bradbury, one of the game's designers.

A huge range of stats and rankings give every player something to aim for, whether it's 'Besieger of the month' or 'Apple farmer of the day'! Join a medieval social network! Factions and elections, liege lords and their vassals, all provide a real sense of structured community.

Whilst strong and well planned castles are at the heart of any lord's domain, players can also specialise via a vast research tree. Starting out as a humble peasant, each promotion brings research points to spend on becoming the best in as many areas as you wish, trading, diplomacy, warfare, farming and more, as the player seeks to control the local parish, county and beyond. As their power grows, players can eventually join in a country wide war for the Crown.

Classic Stronghold goes online in a world where players can, Build, Besiege, Pillage, Farm, Explore, Research, Vote, Trade, Banquet, Fight and much, much more. Many unannounced and surprising game features will be revealed in the coming months. "What is exciting about Stronghold Kingdoms," says Eric Oullett, CEO of Firefly Studios, "is not only are we taking Stronghold online and massively multiplayer, but we are funding this ourselves as an independent developer."
So, what do you think?

Hey! I would want to go for "X-bow maker of the day" if they have one. As it is my favourite SH1 weapon.

It does sound like this could be a great game, and I'll look forward to future updates. Hopefully, it will be able to fulfill, and even surpass, the expectations that SH1 & SH2 have created. And while I wish FF well in this new project, my own selfish concerns revolve around the cost factor, not only in terms of money but also with respect to time. After all, I'm still fairly sure that my wife would like to spend some time with me as well. So, as is my nature, I'll remain cautious--yet optimistic--until more info is available.

Thanks, Sir Hugh & Arthus, for initiating the new threads for SHK . . .

Never played a Stronghold game I didn't like and I am sure this one will become a huge hit and a true classic very soon.

Firefly has released two more interviews. One at the WarCry Network and another at a German site, Online Worlds, has posted an interview with Firefly in German, with an english translation here. Each reveal new info about the game.

Sounds like a fantastic idea, and I will definitely be getting my hands on that as soon as its out. I adore the medieval genre especially when its in Britain, where I live.

I truly hope its a success.

I'm sorta skeptical about things like these (MMOs) and don't really like them much myself, ESPECIALLY subscription ones. I would prefer Firefly to release a Crusader 2 or something, or finish up Dungeon Hero (unless they have done that, I don't really know anything about it).

ESPECIALLY subscription ones.
yep, same. FF would have to produce something amazing for me to even consider subscribing to a game.
Having said that the concept sounds very interesting, the ability to potentially crush someone who annoys you is something that i'd really enjoy

If there is a way to create alliances that would be great too. We could have our own SHH team working together to take over Europe. I suppose we'd have to "deal" with a SHK alliance too if that were the case

Still early days but i have my eyes on this game, like the concept allot.

I don't like subscription-based games either. I hope that they don't make it so. MMORPGs can be loads of fun, but my financial sense tells me not too.

This is something new though. MMO Strategy Games have been mostly browser based. Some game developers are planning online-based RTS games too.

They should make a mmorpg set in medieval england/europe where you control an avatar, yet still run castles and direct battles. Imagine playing Stronghold as your Lord in a 3rd person sense? And then imagine playing in a persistent world. I would pay for that any day.

I just heard!
This is amazing. Of course, i don't think I have time to play an MMO (I get addicted too easily....), but this is still exciting!

Several posters in this thread and on the forums have signed up, but we aren't allowed to reveal details about the game.

Sometimes it's not fun keeping secrets.

I must admit that the official screenshots ,the game looks promising, but like some of you i'm not really fond of subscription games for several reasons such as the cost and some of the people who play online- numpties!

Maybe if was more like the previous games and is similar to age of empires where you can play individually or just online?

Anyway i'm sure it will be a success.

I don't think FF will be silly enough to make it purely a subscription based game, especially when there are free alternatives around.
There will most likely be different payment methods, that seems to be a popular route with these kind of games today

FireFly are looking for beta testers for Kingdoms.

You can see development screenshots and apply to be a beta tester at

More alpha testing continues in the meantime but, hopefully, it will not be too long before the beta is ready to play.

At the moment FireFly seem to be estimating that the beta test would start some time in 2010.

... and they are saying that it will be free to play, which is good news

Looking forward to it!

By the way, Sir Hugh: it's "duct tape", not "duck tape". Unless you're using a new product derived from waterfowl :-)
posted 03-17-10 05:03 EST (US)     21 / 24
No, no, no. It is "duck tape" because it's used for making ducks stick together

That was partly confusion on my part. The common brand of duct tape is called Duck Tape with a yellow rubber workman-ducky on the inside ring. So, the spelling is near interchangeable here.

Speaking of censorship. I read the new agreement for alpha 3, and we are allowed to have loose lips, but can't show it physically.

A new Stronghold game? I'm looking forward to it.

Will it have the static camera as in SH1 and Crusader? Or will it have that clunky 3D camera like in SH2 and Legends?
posted 05-14-10 05:21 EST (US)     24 / 24
The game has the static camera you know from Stronghold.
