Shriveborough is an area jealously gaurded by its inhabitants. Rich in timber, hunting, and natural beauty, it is an oft sought after jewel.
This is the first map that I have ever uploaded. It is intended to be played as either attacker or defender, on Hard (or Very Hard, if you are bold enough). It is perhaps the hardest map I have played as a defender, fair warning! Please let me know what you think.
Waterfall is the name and the backdrop for this small and interesting looking little castle. Not a bad effort by Surc777. However, there are some errors and overlooks that detract from what generally is a decent little siege when you are attacking.
Playability 4/5 Waterfall plays well. The AI defends very well but is only moderately successful as the attacker. The AI did not seem to be able to concentrate its attack against one point of the castle defenses. The attackers quickly become hyperextended and therefore thin in ranks. As a result Waterfall is very easy to beat as the defender. This may be due to the small and numerous wooden outposts that tend to split up the attacking force. Playing on hard difficulty, my first attempt, I achieved victory losing only 33% of my defending troops. On Very Hard my losses were only 50%. As the attacker this is a fun little castle to take. Although I was still successful on my first attempt, I felt far more challenged.
Balance 3/3 Satisfactory but as I stated above far better as an attacking siege than a defending one. The author gives the attacker a decent amount of funds to wage the assault with. Such a sensible figure is nice work. The defending and attacking troops are especially well balanced in their makeup. This makes the attacking siege fun to play and gives the defensive siege at least some challenge. One of the best parts of the map IMO.
Creativity 3/3 Standard fare, the terrain cries out for a more concerted effort. As much effort as the author has put into the castles defenses.
Map Design 3/3 the waterfall is large but very rough in spots. The whole lake area has some very strange elevations that give an unrealistic appearance. It almost feels a little sloppy. Some small bits of land here and there in the lake just look like they were missed with the brush. The castle design I like but it also has a few problems. Most notably; once the attacker manages to get some troops on the wall tops, there are no partitions blocking his access. This means that with one or two waves of mace men, all of the defending ballistic troops can be wiped out.
Story/Instructions 3/3 decent, a short little paragraph story. Its not War and Peace but at least some effort has been made in this category.
In Short - A good effort but more practice is needed to make a great siege. Keep at it Surc777.
