200 years before you were born, your ancestor the king of Crohan was riding in retreat with a small band of what was left of his army when him and his weary troops were ambushed by a small band of the dark lord SarahDur’s archers. Though the archers were outnumbered, by the time the king’s swordsmen reached the dark lord’s archers on the hill the swordsmen were all-dead. The
archer’s took their prisoner the king on the long trip back to the dark land of AraDur where SaraDur
was waiting. When passing over a small stream the king saw a chance to escape so he took it. One of the archer’s saw him run and shot him. The king was dead. With no king the royal council appointed a Stewart.
Stewards have run the land of Crohan for 200 years, some have done great good and incredible deeds others have caused great fear and doubt amoung the most valuable resource of any empire, the population.
2 years ago a great steward died, his son took his place just as they have for two centuries. This great land has seen many evil lords but aside for the late lord SarahDur none have been so cruel and evil. This Steward came to be known as the rat because he told his late father that his brother had been conspiring against him in so giving the rat the thrown over his older brother.
A cloaked man once gave you a letter and told you to open it when evil was afoot, that time was now. The letter told you that you are the Air to the throne of Crohan and you must raise an army and retake what is yours. You assemble a small council of supporters and you decide to found a
small outpost beside Shield Lake. Expect some of the rat’s troops to try and take down the outpost.
This is a very important outpost because it will become your base stronghold to fall back on if you fail a later mission.

I enjoyed playing this mission and would recommend it to others.
Both balance and playability were somewhat average for an invasion map and with only having one signpost, the invasion location was totally predictable and some planning by the player will make this mission a little easy.
The story and map design are a definate plus to the creativity of the map. I did add a point in creativity for this.
I found the map design to be very attractive, however, there were some design issues that would not allow me to score higher than average. The land was not smoothed out in several areas and both the rock quarry areas and iron mines were not very real looking. There is also a large section of the map in the upper left corner that appears unfinished. The map layout is good and with some effort it would be a much more appealing map.
Once again, a very well written story by the map creator.

I am a novice at Stronghold, so I am still playing all scenarios on easy level. I am also a novice at posting comments on maps, but thought I should do so, so bear with me please!
Playablity
I found the map fun to play, though maybe that was because I found it reasonably easy, completing the goals at my first try. It is quite easy to see where the problems will come from and therefore easy to combat them. I'll say no more than that!!
Balance
Only a 3 for balance, as I thought it was slightly bias towards the defender, therefore creating a somewhat uneven scenario. I do realise that this may be different at harder difficulty settings.
Creativity
Again I thought the creativity was average, making this a little bit harder would have created a much better challenge, and I think that is what most SH gamers like.
Map Design
Only a 3 for map design too, though there were some good points, I thought, as someone else commented, that the top left corner of the map could have been worked on a little.
Story
The introductory story was good, but, to me, didn't seem to have much relevance to the gameplay, maybe I just didn't see it, as I get quite engrossed in the game.
Overall, as I said previously, I really enjoyed playing the map, and will look forward to playing any others the author produces. Well done. |
