CHEPSTOW CASTLE 1270 A.D.

While away at court my Lord, a general uprising has occurred on your lands. The Welsh Prince Jeffrey has mobilized the populous, seized Chepstow and garrisoned it with a small contingent of troops. You must act quickly to retake the castle with what troops you can muster before it can be reinforced. His majesty has ordered you to retake the castle and gather resources and weapons for the coming campaign to crush this rebellion. Your duty is to hoard enough stone, wood and iron to build another mighty stronghold. You must also build weapons to guard its construction. Due to troop commitments of the crown, it will take months before a large enough army can be assembled to restore order in Wales. You must retake Chepstow and aid in the construction of the new castle to be built at Ogmore.

*** Victory Requirements ***
Capture Castle
6000 Gold
300 Stone
300 Wood
100 iron
50 bows
* Must complete shipment of goods within 30 years

*** Player Notes ***
This is a "Cede Castle" scenario, where you as the blue player must retake the castle and then defend it against attack from your enemies. There is a time limit to achieve your victory objective (by Jan 1300 - 30 game years). This map isnt a hard map to play. It is designed to be a total packaged game with all three elements of game play (siege, invasion and economic). It may be possible to cheat some by deleting certain portions of the castle toward reaching your stone victory objective - I urge you not do this and mine your own stone! There are four major invasions and a few minor ones to keep you on your toes. As always, I hope you have as much fun playing this scenario as I have had creating it. I welcome constructive feedback and comments about my maps. You may contact me at ron@trinityhsg.com

James,
Duke of York

Chepstow Castle 1270 will be featured as a "Castle of the Week" Please look for the coming article about this wonderful piece of medieval architecture.

Chepstow Castle - Castle of the Week #68

*Chepstow Castle was never besieged or attached during medieval times, this is strictly a “what-if” scenario. Here is the layout of the real castle. I did my best to accurately recreate the castle.

This is a supeb all round map and among one of the best historic castles on the site and almost defiantly the best cede. It is stunning stuff. The playability was perfect - attack, defence and eco all in one scenario. There was little where you could fault the map but it was very hard! This really was very hard - played on normal at first and just captured the castle with very few men left so that was fine but then the economic goals were just too large and the invasions too destructive. I am not a particularly good player of the game but in my opinion it was really was too hard. Playing on easy at the moment the outlook is not good in getting enough stone in. The problem was due to everything being so far away it was hard to establish a full economy. Anyway apart from that the map is simply superb. This is the best historic castle map I have seen. There is no doubt about it. I did even think about building Chepstow myself but this was on such scale. The castle is poised so perfecly along the cliffside of the river. The map design is of a very high standand as well - a superb forest and river. I bet you can't find me a better historic castle than this - can't praise you enough. So although this was a historic it was also wonderfully creative - for the main tower using four keeps side by side. There was wondeful work with walls and inside the castle itself. The story and instructions are very nice - especially as it is castle of the week. The scripted events work very well with the map and although the storyline is simple it is well written and there is plenty of information about the castle. Overall this is incredible. However I would advise beginners to play on easy. In my opinion the best castle design I have ever seen - Donwload this now!

I can't understand why so few have reviewed this fantastic map...

Playability: 5
Works very well, the siege at the beginning is clearly the highlight, but the rest of the map is very fun aswell.

Balance: 4
A bit too hard for me...though I'm not a very skilled player.

Creativity: 5
I can only refer to NAT's review at this part.

Map Design: 5
The VERY best map ever. Chepstow castle is one of my favourite castles of all time and places, it's not concentric like other great casltes of the time, and yet it is so mighty and powerful, and you reconstruction of it is awesome.

Story/Instructions: 5
Great story, but it's a shame that everyone uses the Wolf as their villain...

Additional Comments:

Personal favourite. Siege of sieges, invasion of invasions. I know I've given other maps higher scores, but none the less, this is the very best map ever according to me.
