Story:
Edmund Fitzalan, 2nd Earl of Arundel (your father) was falsely accused of treason and rebellion against King Edward II. He was beheaded without a trial and the castle passed to the Earl of Kent (the Snake). As fate would have it, the truth was revealed and your father was exhonorated. The King has ordered the execution of the snake and has commissioned you (Richard Fitzalan) to lead a force to reclaim your birthright as 3rd Earl of Arundel. The Snake doesn’t intend to surrender without a fight. Even if you succeed in reclaiming the castle, he will defiantly oppose you until the king’s justice is pronounced upon his wicked body.
The King has granted you the right to hold fairs in order to collect the revenue and materials required of you as payment for granting you this opportunity. You have thirty years to reclaim the caslte and achieve his majesty’s objectives. Be prepared, your enemy isnt called “The Snake” for nothing!
Victory Objectives:
Capture the Castle
10000 Gold
100 Population
200 Bread
200 Fruit
30 Swords
30 Metal Armor
Time limit of 30 game years
***Player notes – Please Read***
This is a ‘cede castle’ scenario in which the clock starts ticking the moment you begin. You have limited time to take the castle and achieve your objective (30 game years). This is another “epic” scenario that will hopefully challenge your playing ability but not frustrate you into dispair. Regardless of the daunting economic goals, victory is achievable!
*** If destroyed, the mills can not be replaced – you must protect them.
Helpful Hints:
As the phasing player (green), you must capture the castle as quickly as possible. The enemy will try to break the siege and hamper your efforts – this is one of the inovative features of this scenario. You must plan your attack wisely and strike with accuracy – take advantage of the siege engines provided. If you time your assault properly, it is possible to complete the siege while only sustaining about 25% casualties. Be fore warned that there are some deceptive ‘traps’ designed into the castle’s defenses and if you take the bait, you are in for a rough day!
This project has been a joint effort between Brave Sir Robin and myself. Our goal was to try some new and interesting concepts not yet seen in Stronghold. I hope you enjoy playing this scenario as much as we have enjoyed creating it. As always, I welcome constructive critisism and comments from players. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions.
Happy Gaming!

Duke of York
Arundel Castle was ordered constructed on Christmas Day 1067 by William the Conqueror. Its original construction was a wooden mote and bailey style castle, which was upgrated to stone over the next several centuries. We tried to recreate the castle as it might have appeared in the 13th century. The story and characters named above are historic with a few minor liberties added to adapt for game play.
