NATs Minas Tirith
'The darkness has begun. There will be no dawn.' - Mithrandir at the siege of Minas Tirith.
Not another Minas Tirith! - Well we have made a Helms Deep, Osgiliath and so a Minas Tirith does have to follow! - This map is mainly centred on the films; however the book is filled with marvellous quotes and really great information, so we had to include some of that. All the events leading up to the present situation are explained in the word file attached to the map pack.
Here is a marvellous quote from Return of the King
'And there were there the White Mountains of Ered Nimrais came to their end, and as Gandalf had promised the dark mass of Mount Mindolluin, the deep purple shadows of its high glens, and its tall face whitening in the rising day. And upon its thrust out knee was the guarded city, with its many walls of stone so strong and old that it seemed to have been not builded but carven by giants out of the bones of the earth. Evan as Pippin gazed in wonder the walls passed from looming grey to white, blushing faintly in the dawn; and suddenly the sun climbed over the Eastern shadow and sent forth a shaft that smote the face of the City.
Then Pippin cried, for the tower of Ecthelion, standing high within the top most wall, shone out against the sky, glimmering like a spike of pearl and sliver, tall and fair and shapely, and its pinnacle glittered as if it were wrought of crystals; and white banners broke and fluttered from the battlements in the morning breeze, and high and far he heard a clear ringing of silver trumpets.'
This map has taken us an extremely long time sorting out AI, curved walls etc. - including several restarts at the map. Nevertheless, we have had an enormous amount of fun making this map and we hope that you have as much fun playing it!
This map should be attempted on NORMAL - if you consider yourself an advanced player or a beginner - adjust the difficulty to suit you. But do not play on very hard as problems can ensue.
This is our third LOTRs map and by no means our last! Without doubt it has taken the most time and by far the most spectacular! So do enjoy it!
Also I would like to thank anyone who helped us in the making of this map, that’s Bismuth, Jalis and Lord Arthus so thanks very much to you three.
Thanks for reading all this!

NOTE- This map has been changes slightly altering balance etc. It should now be more of a challenge as the balance has been worked on more carefully

Im downloading as we speak,
i just have to say while i download it that the map looks great in the screenshots. Also i can see something in the corner and i am wondering if it is the rohan riders in the penelor feilds scene.
85%
cant wait
Playability- was very good this time no chasing enemy around.
balance- 5 balance was great nice timing and good now there are less horses. very great
Creativity- there are many minas tirith maps but i think this is one of the best, it is very hard to make them but you have done a very good job looks great.
Map design- Fits in perfectly great penelor fields very great castle well worth 10 but 5 is the limit.
Story & instructions- I have to say it was great, because lotr is. The instructions also helped boost your mark.
Overall- well deserved its 5 there has obviously been alot of effort put in here. |

Ahhh, the long awaited map :p. To bad I cannot play it, I am grounded in terms of Stronghold, as my brand new laptop is back at HP getting some repairs done to the Wireless networking card port. So as it is, I am on my old computer, which runs fine on everything except games. It would be a bore to try and play this map on this. Look for my review in maybe 3 weeks. |

The map has been updated - it turns out that we attached the wrong file. This is the correct file and I hope that you enjoy the changes.

(I Based this on the final version I playtested - and posted it before I saw NAT's request below.)
NAT's Minas Tirith is an extremely playable and fun scenario. With five fortified rings plus the central stone "bastion" you end up fighting off the attackers ring by ring and on two fronts simultaneously. There is pretty much non-stop action from beginning to end. I did hear the words, "The lord has been KILLED!" quite a number of times but there are many options for tweaking one's defense so a loss only leaves you determined to play better next time.
PLAYABILITY - 5
Playing the final version I tried 3 or 4 times on Normal and nearly won on the last try. Then playing on Easy I gained victory with quite a bit of margin. NAT has carefully timed the "arrival" of the knights - they enter into the battle at the last possible moment. Most players will find the NORMAL setting perfectly challenging.
BALANCE - 5
The stonework in the map is well done. It looks like the NAT team laid out the walls square by square to create nearly circular structures. The detail within the inner ring is especially nice with grass, gardens, paved central area and "the tree." Some aspects of this Minas Tirith map are similar previous ones but everything is nicely rendered.
CREATIVITY - 4
The terrain gently slopes up around the rings of walls to the gates, cliffs carefully crafted. The Pellenor fields are not just flat plains but are carefully scattered with rocks, plants and variations in elevation.
MAP DESIGN - 5
NAT has also provided nearly 1700 words of textual support for their map including background info from the Lord of the Rings books, timeline, and hints on how to play the game. The words on the download description page are only a sample of the full text included with the download.

This is the great map, I realy enjoyed it.
Playability 5
I realy liked this map because knights are ready at the time you need them the most. When I played it again I was waiting for the knights so that waiting gives a 5 for playability. I liked retreating archers as well.
Balance 5
Now its just great
Creativity 4
I can’t give you five for creativity, because a lot off people created this map on stronghold (or at least tried)
Map design 5
I liked your map design. You imitated battlefield very good you placed stones on the map, and I liked how you placed the scarp on which slope lies the Minas Tirith. It was looking real good.
Story 5
Your story deserves a strong 5. I think you prepared it very good.

This map is very good.I have played three times on easy so far and lost. The map took a lot of work to make. The walls are nearly a perfect circle and that would have taken forever. The landscape fits the castle perfectly. The castle is on a hill while there is a big open flat area beneath the hill.just lihe in The Lord of the Rings. The story is very long and deatailed. This game is very hard to win on easy.I wonder if it would be impossible to win on very hard? |

I realy had downloaded an older version.
Now the balance is just great, I won it on the third time I played. My tactic was this: I didn’t attacked at the same moment when the knights were ready, I waited for orcs to go to the fourth level and attacked when they were about to go to the final level. Then their numbers were quite lower and they had half of their health, thanks to archers (I would never win without the retreating tactic). I fixed the balance rating to 5.
I haven’t figured out one thing in your map. How did you placed that grass on the final level, I never saw that before how did you did that ?

Wow, one more NAT's.
Playability: 5
You really work on this map. If you rest for a moment it can make the biggest difference (of course, to worse). If you don't move all your troops and plan your strategy quickly, you'll probably fail.
Balance: 4
I was really smashed my the orcs. Also, I missed my crossbowman, it was nearly impossible to kill a swordsman and hard even to destroy the siege equipment and macemen. Played on easy, the same thing, but had more sucess this time. Third time, Knowing better where my troops were, I managed to win.
Creativity: 4
This would deserve a 5, but since this was took out from a book/movie, one point was decreased.
Map Design: 5
I really loved the map terrain and the walls. I would and will never do something like that ever on Stronghold. Good job NAT!
Story/Instructions: 5
You told of the rohirin I would never find out, you gave some hints, you told the story for those who didn't read the book/ whatch the movies. A golden 5 should be given here.
Overall: This is one of the best Stronghold maps to date. You loose, then you feel like playing it again. You win, you play it again too! Great job NAT and I'm looking forward your next maps. |

"Creativity: 4 This would deserve a 5, but since this was took out from a book/movie, one point was decreased." - Nekoenma
I think this is really unfair reason for giving that rating, even if the idea is from a book or a movie, your score in creativity should reflect the author's proficiency in accurately emulating the castle in question... it is much harder to successfully recreate a given castle than to make one from one's imagination, since one has to work within the limits of the game and delicately balance gameplay and accuaracy/Eyecandy... in an imagined map, one can make concessions without a second glance to accomodate gameplay...
I strongly recommend you give an appropriate reason for that rating.
