In a remote part of the kingdom is a desolate place, where four deserted hills rise above a river valley. Nearby living peasants avoid the area. The old people tell the story of the four hills. They call them : The Four Brothers, since there used to live, long ago, the happy families of four brothers, each in their own, simple keep. There was some trading (they were famous for their well forged swords) and the lush meadows along the river gave them plenty of food.
Until that black day, when four knights, the Rat, the Pig, the Snake and the Wolf decided ,that there was something to celebrate together, something they seldom did. Perhaps it was the Rat’s birthday, or the capture of a beautiful castle after a long siege. Nobody knows anymore. But that day their four armies attacked the castles of the brothers. The villains had made a bet, who would have the first castle destroyed and all inhabitants killed. It is said, that The Wolf won, but the other places were in ruins as well, in a short time. Nobody survived.
Since that black day the valley is abandoned.
Be brave and try to build your own castle on one of the hills. Lure the peasants with food and money. The valley is still fertile, the iron to make swords is still there.
Make this a happy valley again.

Update on 5-2-04.
Due to the large number of trees and scrubs all trees died within the first two years. So I had to erase many of them, alas. My excuses to all, who downloaded the previous version.
An altogether splendid map! Everything fit together perfectly: the poignant story, the castle ruins, the terrific balance of resource placement & accessibility, & the number and location of wolves and bears to keep the archers running around! Wonderful job - thanks!

My Other Review was A Bit smallish don't you think well here i come to explain it all. i really love a good freebuild map and the four brothers really fits all my needs. there is an excellent story line to it i tried following the story line but found it hard as i had to move onto another hill so my stockpile was quite far away from the blacksmith's work shops i thougt i would sell them at market but i found it was a bad choice because i kept being attcked by wolves and had no troops to attack back with but over all i found it a fantastic map.
