This map had plenty of potential based on the idea (I have had a similiar idea myself that i have been working on), but the moment the map opened, things were in trouble.
BTW, this map was meant to be played as attacker.
Playability: 1
I give this score because with the terrain (the fords) my troops were continously slogging through, this became a boring exercise just to get to the ship itself. When I got to the ship with a significant amount of swordsmen and macemen, I quickly broke through the gatehouse and proceeded to clear the crossbowmen on the walls and towers. I pressed onward, and got to the swordsmen and the knights, where my first wave was defeated. To my dismay, I couldn't bring my horsemen or other forces to bear, because they had been destroying the stairs behind me. This effectively ended the campaign.
Balance: 1 I played the first three times on easy, and was wiped out due to the conditions listed above. No way to beat this map on hard at all without changing the force makeup.
Creativity: 2
The idea is sound, but the mix of stone towers and stairs and the gatehouse on the ship is detrimental and not believable. You should examine Lord Ako's ship in the gallery at the Stronghold main page for a better grasp on how to build a more realistic and user-friendly ship.
Map design: 2
Not much to the map, and the fords intermingled within the beach is just awkward and unnatural. The designer needs to get a better feel for the editor and its uses in building more realistic and plausible terrain.
Story/Instructions: 2
The in map story is okay, but every map needs a storyline, especially for the description page, and a mini-map would be nice, as well. This will improve the overall look of the download, as well as draw the player in and generate interest for the map.
I know people don't like hard or unfavorable reviews (I don't either), but by pointing out flaws and making creative suggestions, the designer can learn and improve on thier skills. And as a firm suggestion: Quality outrates quantity every time in my book. Every map should feel to the player as if the designer devoted and inserted every ounce of his/her artistic and creative ability.
