Wildwood

Author File Description

Map Size: 200x200 (Small)
Difficulty: Normal
Minimap:
You must lead your people in their quest to begin a new life deep in the ancient Wildwood forests. Your kind is being driven out of it's traditional homelands through the constant fighting between rival tribes.

With a few supplies and men you must gather up foodstocks and secure the immediate area. It will not be simple, there are very many predators in the woods and other hostile tribes move about the forest. Raise a small fortification and produce weapons, both for your protection and to equip the rest of your tribe upon their arrival.

It is vital to protect your berry-pickers, they are the only ones who have the knowledge of the forest fruit and cannot be replaced.
It is also advisable to protect your only chapel, your people will appreciate some spiritual guidance in this difficult time.

This is a small invasion map, designed to be played at normal level.
It was supposed to be my attempt at making an economic map, but I got carried away and put invasions all over it ... oh well!

This map highlights the 'random apple trees' trick and is based on an original map by Jalis, who I'd also like to thank for performing the colour change trick.

It's not huge and it's not too difficult, but I hope you enjoy the scenario.
Happy gaming people ...

WARNING: This map was made using V1.2. It is playable in V1.0 and V1.1, but the chapel and two apple farms will vanish at the first invasion. It is still possible to win, it will just be a bit harder.

Great map from bsr! I always love playing your style invasions and here was no anomaly. Wildwood is a small but enthralling ecovasion and as the author puts it, the map is crawling with invasions, invasions that I could not hold off... I am yet to complete the map on Normal but I have some new tactics for next time round. The balance for me was always just out of reach, meant you had to keep playing to see if you could get there! Shame there wasn't a time limit, I needed more pressure!

The design of this little scenario is divine and the creativity score is a 5 mainly due to the mingled apple orchards in with the rest of the forest. Superb map design and creative work! The map is small (200 by 200) but you don't feel crampt at all and there is plenty of building space. 9/10 awarded with ease here! Storyline and instructions, a nice little story in the site desciption with the addition of a minimap. Good to know what you are in for! Overall a lovely little map, almost perfectly balanced, very playable and by all means very well designed. Good work!

This map was a blast. Took me a couple of tries to beat it on Very Hard, but that's no easy feat. One game was lost simply because I ran out of deer to hunt.

Playability 5.

There aren't a whole lot of different things you can build here, so it comes down to timing, which leads me to

Balance 5

The invasions were staggered beautifully, increasing in intensity. You can't take too much time winning this map, as the invasions eventually get to a point where a real breach is a possibility.

Creativity 4

only because I don't like giving out 5.0 reviews. The apple tree trick is beautifully implemented.

Map Design 5

Not only is this the smallest map I've ever played on, but the available building space is pretty limited as well, due to all the wall-unfriendly terrain. Good replay value.

Story 5

Set up the scenario perfectly; the time period fit the available technology as well.

This map kept me awake last night. I couldn't get to sleep until I finally got up and won it on VH; the techniques I had figured out to win it were screaming at me to be tried, and they worked.

An excellent map design by bsr.
