Caer Trachmyr is a castle built on the ruins of an ancient foe's lands. The people are content, happy to picnic by the waterfalls or in the old ruins. Lord Rheidwn has eyed their complacency with growing alarm, knowing that if an enemy came, the castle would be defenseless. Last year he sent scouts to all four corners of the realm, and now the news he has been dreading has arrived. The ancient enemy is regrouping its forces and plans to regain its land. Lord Rheidwn must now prepare for war, and the people won't be happy with the change!

Hmmm I see Lady Kester has been at the Brandy again!!
Well, what seemed at first to be a nice easy Eco map, turned into a right little stinker,It took me about 4 tries on normal to get this one completed!
This map is a busy bee type of scenario, by which I mean, from the off you have to start collecting resources very quickly, spend too much time admiring your handy work and that nasty little time bar races far too quickly towards your defeat.
The map is of the 300x300 type and has been landscaped to a high standard.
Your Keep is situated in the middle of the map ,and is encircled by a stout wall, towers and large gatehouse,given you the feeling of being well protected.(you hope!).
The castle is surrounded by woodlands and a few bare areas of grassland, iron and pitch resources lie a reasonable distance away from your Keep and are nicely made. Plenty of wildlife, some good and some bad, inhabit your kingdom, so you can hunt to your hearts content. A large river runs down the side of the map , and can be crossed at certain points along its length.
The one bad point about this map, is that horrible signpost that is situated at one of the edges of the map, and we all know what trouble they are associated with, don't we?

From the very beginning this map is quite a reasonable challenge and it will keep you on your toes all the way to the end. The targets seem a little too high at first, but with some thought and good strategy are eventually overcome. Disstractions along the way include those ever present pesky bandits , wolves and the occasional bear, although none of these are a real danger in achieving your victory. You start the game with a few archers and help soon arrives from some friendly outlaws, with these few men you can nearly overcome all the obstacles that lay ahead.
With some nice well thought out scripting, this map shows you how an experienced map-maker like Kester pulls it off.
I am also glad to see that Kester doesn't lock her games, as it's always nice to see how an author constructs a game, given invaluable lessons and insight to any new map maker on map making techniques.
All in all the playability and balance of this map is just about right.

The layout of the map and the structure of the game where nicely done, nothing very new or original , but there again what do you expect from a game that has been around a looong time, but Kester has given us an enjoyable Eco game that is not too long or short and above all else is fun, what more can we ask for?
The opening story-line explains the situation easily enough, but I would like to have had a little more regarding the history of the Lords powerful foe, and why they are returning to reclaim the land.( But hey, I am a nosey old Knight after all.)
