The Conquest VII -

The Coast Road had provided Prince Edward with a string of victories so it was not suprising that his mind was now set in expeditions Northwards through the Southern Mountains. However it was the very first expedition led by Sir Robin that encountered a rather major problem, the Castle Glenriddin at the very edge of the mountains stood in their way. Sir Robin's army was no match for such a castle and so were driven from the walls and now lay scattered surrounding the castle, just still strong enough to hold off the enemie's attepmts to drive them from the positions. Prince Edward rode North to join Sir Robin and his now bedraggled force to take the castle by force. Defeat was out of question or what is it? It is all up to you...

The Conquest in general follows the path of prince Edward and many other characters in their conquest for peace in the islands of Hertoin. The first five maps will be set in Sallium and the last five in Dinlathia. As well as the prologue video which can be downloaded here there will be a epilogue video.

I am afraid that this map has only one setting to play on. It makes NO difference what playing level you select, it will be the same!

Lord Richard Is this in fact a Seige, and not an Invasion?

Sort of, but in a siege map you can't have men allready on the map in positions so it is classed as an invasion map. It is easier as well as all previous Conquest maps have been invasions.

Woah! Were are all the reviews for this great map??

I want to review it, but I can't quite complete it
(I will NOT look at the hints!)

Although I haven't finished it, this is an excellent map, great fun, if a little challenging.

Whew! Finally finshed it! (with the hints...)

This was a very enjoyable map, and I commend NAT for their first siege (sort of) map.

I thouroughly enjoyed this map. Their are a whole host of ways to attack the enemy keep, and the opening sequence is entertaining. I must of tried at least 10 different ways of attacking the castle some working better than others. Slegehammer tactics are not for this map! The fun of it, however, is workng out how to attack.

This map was hard to balance. Although I kept losing, the fault was always with me, not the map. It was difficult, but not frustratingly so, and it has that thing which keeps you coming back. When I finnaly finished, I though "Why didn't I do that in the first place??"

Although their isn't anything particularily new here, I have never seen such a cinematic opening sequence. I also liked stealing enemy equipment, although it was a bit fiddily.

Map Design-5
Another beutiful map from NAT. If you want to know how to design a map, look at this.

Good story, but not massively long. The thing that pushed this section up was the hints. I don't know how long you played to work out the absolute perfect strategy to assault the keep, but it worked. (note:DO NOT read hints before playing, as it ruins the fun of the level.)

Overall, another solid map by NAT, and a good effort for their first siege map.

Thanks for the comments Jax, Good luck!
ice_dragon I've been playin this great map for a while, and noticed the huge (??) download number. Nothing's better than a review in this case...

Now let's see.

-> Playability: 4
No economics needed for this one, 'tis purely strategy and combat. You start off with some really tired troops that got beaten so badly, shields barely standing, and spearmen that have at least 2 arrows in their stomach. This is a very tough map indeed, it is most unlikely to win at first attempt. But the fear of losing, after all, is everything in a game. There is a neat way to finish the map, but it would be unfair to include it in the review. I feel a solid 4 would be appropriate.

-> Balance: 4
Very tough enemy, beginners beware!! X-bowmen were the most threatening units, as they kept sniping off some of my fresh spearmen and archers (which greatly affetcs the outcome of this battle btw). The outlaws returning from the woods can prove quite handy, if used wisely that is.
Actually, this map kinda reminds of that mission when you first lay siege to the Pig's castle. Another solid 4, job well done.

-> Creativity: 5
Although small, the castle is very-well defended. You can't just rush in with your troops (just like I once tried), you'll be dead in no time. The idea of the punished shields that serve for cover was perfect for this map. The catapults were out of stones, and the trebuchets just had a few rocks to throw, but I assume this is used to enhance the feel of a once very tiresome battle, along with something to lower the moral of the badly beaten troops, as well as yours. No less than a 5 here.

-> Map Design: 4
One of the main reasons I downloaded this map is because of the minimap itself, along with the screenshots. I just couldn't wait to witness the map design. Awesome! I liked how you used the Marsh in this one. Plus, the hill on which the castle was built really gave the enemy a tuff defensive position, making my trebuchets barely hit their targets. Smart job, nice 4.

-> Story/Instructions: 4
Liked the story and the arrangement. Not much to say here, If you've followed the previous chapters.

Overall: Great sequel to the series, smart design, lots of strategy. More!
