This is a story dating back to roman empire and a Lord Gildart's attemp at reprovisioning of his ship from a small island when the opposing force shows up to do the same thing.Really not ment to be a typical nogold assault type encounter, but a milder version econ.If I were you I wouldn't waste much time.NOGOLD:)
Peligus Island is so different from the classic “NOGOLD map” where one expects to see tens of thousands of units facing off on a great field of battle. Still this mild, small scale economic scenario was interesting and enjoyable to play. The mini-map itself is quite intriguing showing two ships anchored on opposite sides of a small island. One ship is your “base” and the other is a source of trouble in the form of bandits.
After a few false starts I began to seriously develop my economy. The Island offers many exploitable resources but ultimately your only goal is to make money. Wolves and bandits are a challenge at first but after a few years the main challenge is just to squeeze as much as you can out of the island.
By the time I was half way to the goal the game play was starting to become a little tedious (even running he game at full-speed) and the negative events seemed to peter out. There did not seem to be any time limit for the game. I would suggest reducing the economic goal to around 5,000 but also having a time-limit set to January 84 or earlier. This would increase pressure on the player to produce. Still a fun game overall. My playability score may be a little generous here but the map has good potential. Playability – 4, Balance – 3.5
Nicely designed Island with a balance of sandy beaches and eroded cliffs. Some good terrain shaping but also some “large brush” squarish sections too. The ships are a clever idea and work well but don’t give any margin for expansion of either the stockpile or the granary so the player must carefully monitor and “empty” these on a regular basis. The bandits tend to attack and destroy their “own” ship as well as the player’s facilities. Map Design – 4, Creativity - 3
Good kernel of a story but way too short. Story – 2.5
Nogold – Nice map and could be better balanced and more playable with a few tweaks. As with all reviews this is just an OPINION. (smile)
