In the year of our Lord, 1378.
It is a time of war for England, as the King has sailed to France to battle against the forces there, leaving behind a country in turmoil. With the King absent, the populace is filled with doubt and fear, and only the tight control of the local lords keeps the citizens from falling into the throes of panic and despair.
The King has called upon many cities and thier lords to rally the resources of the nation for the march across the channel, and now His Majesty has turned to the holy City of Rethnor for a most important task. Marked by its great temple and its magnificent port, Rethnor has long been a prosperous yet peaceful city, ruled by you, Lord Farrimore. Along with the heads of the great church, you have guided Rethnor to new hieghts and fame as one of the most beautiful cities on England's eastern shores. Now you have been called into the war effort by the King's desires to tap the natural resources of this great city.
With its vast source of pitch, iron, and stone, the land will provide the backbone of the war effort, and the port will insure rapid delivery to the King and thearmies of the crown far to the east on the french shores. But not without a price. A stiff time table has been placed upon you, and with the King away, organized groups of bandits have begun to assail the local cities, plundering and pillaging weaker outposts all along the eastern coast. Scouts have reported that large bands of these thugs have been scene less than two days ride from Rethnor. Wheli you fear not for the city itself, with the loyal monks of the church and your own trusted garrison, the brigands could pose a dire threat to the industries so desperately needed at full capacity at this crucial time.
You will have to be very vigilant, indeed.
