Javielle

Author File Description
Jayhawk
File Details
Map Size: 300x300 (Medium)
Difficulty: Hard
Javielle is set in France somewhen during the 100 Years War. It's located somewhere near the Pyrenees Mountains, in two small fertile valleys, discovered by your father. He soon found out, much to his surprise the soil gave a wonderful flavour to the locally brewed ale.
Your liege lord, Quinault, Comte Lanval, is planning a joust for Easter, and has asked you to supply him with ale and bread. You must, however, beware of raiding English.

NOTES
• If this game had supported growing grapes for wine, the target would have been wine. :)
• Even though these games are labelled as Invasion maps, they concentrate at least as much, if not more on the Economic challenges.
• The end of invasion marker is not to be trusted.

Tips:
- A raid will follow soon.
- Be careful of the terrain, though completing the castle may be easier than you think.

A challenging map that grows easier with time.

PLAYABILITY: Fun to play, but in the end, you are just waiting for all that bread to be made.

BALANCE: A tad too easy. The invasions aren't strong enough to hurt you once you've walled in the economic area.

CREATIVITY: Good all around.

MAP DESIGN: Above average (especially in the center of the map).

STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: Good story for economic requirements.

As most of Jayhawk's maps, the stronger emphasis is on the economic side.

Lord Malibar - I find your playability comment interesting as it shows the difference, possibly, between Stronghold players coming from a Citybuilding background (like me) and those from other backgrounds (like you). I find the resource collecting/economic side far easier to complete than any military requirements and at the end of Javielle I had long finished gathering everything I required and was just waiting for the last invasion.
Lord Malibar GillB,

I have played City Builders MUCH more than Real Time Stategies.

If you read my comments in BALANCE you will see the "problem" is that later invasions are not a threat whatsoever. So, you end up just waiting on the bread. :)

Stratego Aclassic creation of an older experienced mapmaker! I've never felt bored, there is always a lot to do to keep your economy up and to repel the steadily increasing enemy attacks being launched from 4 various signposts/directions. Furthermore you have to use the flat green ground efficiently in order to fulfill the demanded amount of goods.
Again a splendid work by Jayhawk!
