Juggernaught- Fallen

Author File Description
Captain Diablo
File Details
Map Size: 200x200 (Small)
Difficulty: Hard
Minimap:
The castle your father had built lay in ruins before your eyes. You had won the battle, but at a terrible cost. Suddenly a group of Knights-all battleworn-approached your disentergrating keep.
"Who are you?" You asked.
"My name is Thomas, my group of Knights were with your father when he was killed." Thomas the Knight stepped off his horse.
"But my father died! Of natural cause!"
"I was with him! When you saw him, he was dying, he didn't want to trouble you..."
"Who did it?!"
"He said he would reveal himself when the time was right." You breathed a deep, deep sigh. You regained your composure and said; "Were you followed here?"
"Perhaps, we heard strange sounds in the night. Sounded like the Pig's forces."
"Time for another fight."
"We'd be crushed! We must flee into the mountains!"
"My father built this castle, I won't abandon it."
"I understand, but you must..."
"...ok. What do I do?"
"Rally the troops, we have a few months, train some Crossbowmen. We'll have to move fast."
"Right." You turned to your weary eyed soldiers.
"Everyone! Rally to me! We must make haste! This castle has Fallen, but we will never fall!"

Good map, as you can see I played it for a while. At least a couple of start overs. I even tried saving it when I thought I was at a good point. Alot of swearing later, I found out that you have to attack certain points at certain times. The "back door", where it looks like its just one wood wall to get inside, is a false door! You cannot get in that way, and are target practice for the crossbowmen in the back tower. The map is awesome on playability, its the type of map that when you win, you know that you actually did something. You need to know close infantry fighting techniques here. Nice work.

It took alot of work to get that score. I probably tried more than 10 times to beat it. I dont think it matters if its on easy or very hard, there is the same amount of enemy and they dont seem tougher on each. Finally I got the macemen to the back tower and killed the king at the same time. Your horses are just good for quick charges, because you have to get up and in those towers, they are not used in the critical battles. The macemen are the important ones. Conserve them til the back tower. I wont give away the end, but it is well done. Theres no economic component to balance, so this gets a high 4.

Good idea that uses small units to battle each other to the death. The numbers are about the same on each side, but the enemy are spaced out so you can hit em in small groups. If this was a cede scenario I would give this a five, it would be epic if it had the big invasion after with you in control of the castle. That would be total redo of the maps events, so as it stands its a four.

Map Design: 5
Because the map is very challenging and had a false door, I'm giving it a five. Some of the challenging design work: If you move your troops through certain fields of fire, they will be shot at by almost all the archers on the map. So even the archer fire is designed well. Another example, the troops outside work together to make it difficult to attack that particular area. Keeping the macemen safe and moving all the time (a moving target is harder to hit) is key. The terrain is rocky and broken, but you need the cover when you are running up on those damn towers. Awesome work on a small map that doesnt use every building in the editor in order to be a hit.

Story/Instructions: 5
Nice, and worth a low 5. Keep up the Juggernaught themed maps! I like the story and the map. If I had to pick out one flaw, its the basic dialogue in the ongoing story. Seems pretty bland like ..."My father built this castle, I cant abandon it"..."We have to."... If you need some writing help on the next one, email me. Also if you need help with a cede conversion.

Additional Comments:
"Thumbs Up" from me, all should download this. And give it a good high rating that it deserves.

The map was extremely fun, but I took off one, since the ropcky landscape made it hard to move the troops, thus causing me unecessary losses.

Made it my second try at normal.

Couldn't be better according to me, perfectly balanced, not too easy, not too hard.

The trick with the wooden-gate was good, not much else to be said though.

Map Design: 4
Looked good, different from Lollard I beleive that a higher detail-level is required for a 5.

Story/Instructions: 4
Good, well written. Though I don't think the word "OK" was used in the middle-ages =P

Additional Comments:
This is a great map, that gives you a nice challenge and makes you think of how to use the few troops given to you.

Thank you Jaspir, I tried to make the terrain rocky because;

1. It's the mountains.
2. I wanted to add an extra challenge for players.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the review!
