I want to thank Stronghold Heaven for voting this castle number 1. It was so much fun to design and play test, and i hope everyone who plays it will ultimately be satisfied. You'll find it a fun experience, but at the same time challenging where good strategy will see you through. The story and additional notes are included in the Zip file. Happy gaming. Andy |

well, ill have to say it is a beautifully designed castle with much realism. I found this map hard to beat, only because some weird force wouldn't let my archers get to the main towers. Anyone I hired wouldnt move to the barracks because they were stuck at the campfire, and for some reason couldnt get to the towers via stairs. Except for that minor setback, it was a great map. |

Hi Andy, just thought to let you know I'm planning on reviewing this map. It is huge in every aspect though so reviewing it is proving to take some time. So far I have used archers and shields to penetrate conwy town, I'm planning on doing the economic mission first.
It might take me one or two weeks, but I will review this one! (Strange that no one has done so yet, a competition winner none the less!) |

Sorry, I can't be giving your map a review Andy, I simply just can't beat it. To be honest, I don't even stand a chance...
But I still have some positive feedback on the two categories whih I can judge; map design and creativity.
Map Design: A clear 5. The map design is truly amazing. The castle is, of course, the map's main feature, but being one who concerns more about landscape and nature, I was happy to see that time and effort had been put here. The design is somewhat simple (not as craggy and over detailed as many others do) but very effective. The big hills to the north are the favourite parts of the map. They're simply huge. I don't think anyone has actually done that big hills before, and it's the size that makes them so nice, for once, more natural-sized hills (yah, I know, there are small hills too)!
The town is very nice, although I feel I'm perhaps not the person to judge it, since I'm not really in to either cities or eye-candy. Enjoyers of those will find the city to be a splendid piece of designing, though!
And, finally, to the castle. The castle is BIG, really big, and it really gives that imposing feeling that I beleive that the real castle must deliver (though I've not been to Conwy so I can't be sure =P). The towers are massive, probably the biggest, and tallest, towers designed in Stronghold, the whole map has this "bombastic" feeling XD
Creativity: Along with Jalis' Le Neuvieme Chatiment and Lord Ako's The Vking Raid I, I hold this map to be one of the few maps worthy a 6 in creativity. Ordinary, I don't care much for creativity when playing or looking at a map, and the older Stronghold gets, the harder it gets to come up with whole new ideas. But, when I encounter maps like this one I can't stop to be amazed by what you can achieve with such simple tools (and some bugs and alterations of course =P) and such a limited editor. There's simply no point in counting all the creative features in this map (there are simply too many of them), but my favourite feature was the operable towers that served as working stations.
Well, this is a great map, Andy! Just hope I'll beat it sometime... |

Thanks Jasper for your words on Conwy - i appreciate what you said and how you said it. You were honest and to the point, and for that i thank you. But i am sorry you didn't manage to complete the map. To be fair i do feel now that i made it a little too hard, something i'm prone to doing i think :) - I have however an idea to redesign the script and turn Conwy into a stand-alone seige map, this may happen in the future. I'd like to add snow and some interesting scenario ideas but this is something i need to think about. Anyway, thanks once again for the feedback - i'm pleased you thought map design + creativity were good. Conwy was great fun to design and research and although i won the comp i felt it was the taking part that really counted. Happy gaming Andy |

Hi Andy, I have run into very serious problems in my attempts to finish the economic scenario. My last 5 or 6 attempts have ended in freezes, crashes and reboots. This happens at seemingly random moments during different years, not just the ones mentioned in the bug file. I can make due without the shields but I need hops for the victory conditions. This is getting rather frustrating, do you have any additional advice? Are the other two scenarios plagued by these bugs as well? I am finding map design, creativity, story and balance of very high standard, probably all fives. But if I had to rate this now in all honesty I would have to rate playability a 1 or a 2. :(
Where do these bugs come from anyway? Wooden platform tricks or magic boxes maybe? The game hates both of them I know from experience. |

Yes, I'm having similar problems Ako. I put a mill in the wrong spot apparently, but I haven't been able to find the source of the latest crashes. I was just clearing out the archers on my last attempt when it crashed. But the few times I have played through to my defeat, I've had a rowdy good time doing it. Amazing map Andy, just wish it wasn't as buggy. |
