This map portrays the city of Ylarum in the Emirates of Ylarum from OD&D. Sunbaked land surrounds a ancient but self sufficent walled oasis. You must use stealth and strategy in this, the conclusion of my dated series. This walled city is definately one of a kind in defensive design.
You are being paid 2000 gold coins to kill the Emir. Ofcourse you dont really want or need the money, all your population was killed long ago. You just want a chance at killing the Emir. You gather all your old cronies and pals and meet under the cover of darkness near the city. Your ally Sultan Abdul and his gang of thieves, snitches, and cutthroats are present at the meeting. All is well until a hue and cry is raised! You have been discovered and informed on, and now have the city on alert. Get back in the city and use stealth to get to your fire ballistas in the far corner. They are currently unmanned but can be a dangerous threat in a crowded city. Move along the walls or near them and ignite whole blocks on the move towards the inner citadel. Or try your own new and creative attack plan. The city is fully functional and will defend itself. Attack the citadel by any means neccessary. This is a suicide mission and has been completed one time only by my playtester.
The Inner Citadel (Palace of the Emir)

EDIT - difficulty changed to impossible for the normal player.

The map was very fun. However, the only working stragety I could come up with involved very reitive actions and was not too high on the fun-ometer. Also, the two balista towers were perfectly placed for a constant hassle
Balance: 5
You map was hard, but far from impossible. It only took me three reloads to find a working stragity. (I won't reveal this stragity as to not ruin the map for others). The first relod was due to me thnking that swordsmen and sribic sworsmen could dig moats. The third one was to find the best place to assult the Citadel. Anywas, who wants a map where you have to reload a dozen times?

I don't give explanations on creativity.

Super-dooper. The city was degisined nicely, the walls were nice, but not extrodanarly creative, and there was no stragities I could use that would be that are cheap. At first, i though i could move my baslistas inside the wall, but found a hill blocking thier progress. But serously, why do you have sultan on the map as your ally? The fact that his castle was prt-way destroyed was kind of cool though (im assuming that that's what the semi ircle of walls are.)

The last in you historical series is as prestine and well though out as your first. But seriously, stick with Crusader maps. Its all I have. |

Excellent, just excellent. The only problem was that I could think of only one way to win, and that made the replayibility go down. I also had trouble finding the fire ballista...
Balance: 5
Make one mistake, and you're out of the game, my friend. STRATEGIZE!

I liked the castle design, the outer wall, and the citadel. The whole thing, I suppose! Also liked the ruins of Sultan Abdul's castle.

See creativity.

Not much to say, except for what I've said ofr everything else: good!

I find it very difficult to get into the citadel.
Balance: 4.5
I like how you have equal amounts of troops as your enemy. It makes it extremely hard to achieve victory if you loose even 1 of your troops.
Creativity: 5
All I can say is well designed.
Map Design: 4.5
The city's walls are very well designed; they look great. The small eyecandies are also good, they gave me some ideas.
Story/Instructions: 5
I think the idea of getting revenge is great.
Additional Comments:
The picture of the Emir looks funny. How did you get it? Also, The Sultan doesn't do anything...I'm not sure what's wrong there.
Overall: great map |

Even since my first visits to Stronghold Heaven, I admired this map. As a beginner, I found it just incredible from all aspects, now I found it an original map though not 'perfect' but everyone should try it. The map has been highly entertaining since the first time played and will continue to be, as the fun it offers can be well enjoyed by everyone.
Balance: 5
The author describes the map as 'impossible' and he mentions "for normal players" but 'hard' would fit better I believe. Anyway, the scenario holds a big challenge and takes some tries and different strategies so that there will be no losses from the Emir's counter attack. One cannot enter in Emir's castle just by destroying walls as a small hill is placed in their back. The only way to do that is by using the siege engine, and one must choose the right timing to do that otherwise he risks a direct attack of Emir. The fire ballistas are a key to victory, I believe you can't win without them. Actually, in this game, you hold so few troops, that after seeing the Emir's castle size your first impression is "this is not possible", and EVERY single soldier counts. A clever player will use even his king, in order to achieve victory (yes, it is possible to move the king). The engineers, though too many for the three fire ballistas and having no money to build any other siege sngines, you can't win the map without them, as they are your only troops which can dig the citadel moat. On one of my first attemps to play this map, I tricked the counter attack and rushed to the citadel but I completely forgot about the moat surrounding it, so *crap!*. Overall a very tricky map where the AI will try to win against the player and the player will need to find a way to trick the AI in order to win.

An old map and one of the first which represents a modded AIv castle (in the editor, not the program) fighting against the player. Today we have an advanced look upon maps like this thanks to the AIv creator program but there are still few people who 'dares' to create such a scenario and still none makes such a feeling in gameplay like this one (unique feeling, there are certainly other maps with great feeling). The other big aspects of creativity like map design and story are original as well, though they didn't get a solid 5.
Map Design: 4.5
It feels sad to not give a 5 on map design after giving three 5s on playability, balance and creativity, but I feel like there are certain spots on the map where things are not 'perfect'. Two of them are the most remarked:
- The desert around the city, which looks the same everywhere. Of course a desert is just a bunch of sand and rocks but some adds to the terrain would make it look more...let's say alive.
- Inside the city it feels that there are too few people for such a big castle concept. There could be more buildings. Also inside of city some fat grass is placed where it shouldn't, and that is desert-alike terrain, which gives the player a squarely feeling about the design in that spot.
Anyway, those 'negative' aspects are not either important or significant but keeps the map from getting full mark.
Story/Instructions: 4
An original and well done story which is avaiable in the description. All the reviewers before me gave a 5 here but the story is not exceptional
