Story
“Lord Similian, you will march to the castle at Sald’ur. Take a small band of your finest men, sneak into their castle, and assassinate the lord. Take over the castle, and make haste. That evil tyrant’s empire is on the move. Prepare for the largest siege this world has ever seen. My spies report to me that the garrison is weak, though it does contain a large contingent of siege engineers and knights – make best use of them, should you persuade them to join you. Also, if you can, force some money out of the local populace, as my treasuries are beginning to become depleted from the war effort. Make use of the local labor, and I will need you to supply me with bread – I am running out of food for the troops on the Western Front. Remember, that you are the sole guardian of the Eastern front. Should you fail, all of the West will fail.” The king held down his hand, and lifted his vassal up. He looked up at him, knowing that most likely, this would be a suicide mission.
“My liege, you have my word on my life, that I will not surrender to him, even if I were the last man standing. To the death!”
“The tyrant and his two best generals are all going to be part of the major attack. They know that Sald’ur is the key that will either make or break us. Expect him to be particularly ruthless there.”
“I will show towards that traitor as much honor as he shows me.”
***
The wars had carried on for nearly half a century. On one side were the allied kingdoms of the west. The other was an upstart empire, to the east and south of the allies. The other neutral republic stayed to the north, as politics did not accomplish anything there. Formed by the traitor, he was nicknamed “the Wolf”. Nobody could survive long if he planned to kill someone. Fierce-looking and fearsome, he ruled his lands with an iron fist.
Soon after the first bout of fighting, he had found his right and left hands. Namely, the Snake and the Pig, to give them their full compliments. Acting like their nicknames, they were no better than the Wolf. By military means, political means, and by their own strange sort of charm, the three forged together a massive empire. During those battles, the key fort at Sald’ur changed hands many times. After the last battle, a cease-fire had been called. No political boundaries had changed, but one key part of the treaty was that Sald’ur would be ceded to the Wolf. Knowing the imminent danger of another invasion, the allied Kingdoms could not rest in peace.
The first round of heavy fighting left both sides weakened. The allies were crippled economically, though their fighting spirit was still as strong. The Wolf once again, prepared for war. Having assembled a force of over half a million infantry, several score thousands of heavy cavalry and marksmen, and a sizeable force of military engineers, he marched towards the Allies on two fronts. On one front, he prepared to invade to the North. On the other front, he prepared to march towards the castle at Sald’ur. Once his southern army reached Saldur, it would join the Eastern army. Leaving behind a large garrison, the Wolf and his two generals planned to then strike deep into the allies, pushing further northwest at double march, as to take the capitol of the allied kingdoms.
Even the loss of the capitol would not mean much to the allies, it had much sentimental value and in pride. The capitol was the cornerstone of civilization. The first organized country centered there. With rich cultural diversity in the city, being a center of trade between nations and having a veritable storehouse of knowledge accumulated over the millennia in the universities, its loss would have a detrimental effect on morale.
***
The King, sitting on the throne in the capitol, then learned how significant the castle of Sald’ur really was. Being the only passage into the West (apart from the sea, but the barbarian navies and their underwater boats were a different matter…), it would decide the war. If it fell to the Wolf, then he would have no exposed flanks, and he would therefore be able to punch in with the coup de grace. That however, was too late.
On the eve of the Wolf’s invasion, this was the King’s only hope for survival. He had to retake Sald’ur.
Notes
1. It is inadvisable to play this on Very Hard, as this will likely be suicide and because of the invasion sizes, they may hit the sprite limits! Anything higher than normal may cause your computer to lag a bit.
2. This scenario was designed to be challenging. Do not expect to be able to let things go on atuo-pilot.

There are two ways, both can be accessed on Stronghold Knights.
1) Hex-editing tutorial. That's what I usually use, because it gives you more freedom of colors.
http://www.stronghold-knights.com/site/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1222&&sid=44e10ef9c6b14b58b909e9858474a31e
2) Use a template map, it can be found in the downloads section of that site. |

i just downloaded it but don't know how to play it so can someone help me pease?
(edited by Sulis)
You need to ask these questions in the forums rather than in the downloads comments thread. You'll get a better response, and avoid the risk of having a comment deleted.
For your information, the .map file needs to be extracted to: c / program files / firefly studios / stronghold / maps. Open the game and locate the scenario via the 'invasions' option.[Edited on 07/31/07 @ 08:15 AM]
