“It was more of a Fort than a Temple, and more part of the Landscape than a Fort.” -King Isis the Wolf

If ever there was such a place where shrub-choked-rocks covered the land and towering mountains stood like ancient kings; if ever there was such a place where travelers and adventurers would have had to traverse loose pebbles and the wayward rocks with a light step; if ever there was such a place where monotheists--and not pagans--were the persecuted; if ever there was such a place where the Weak were cast aside and where Might made Right, these hills, this land, this Earth would have been that place. Indeed, the towering mountains both helped and hindered the people rooting there, they served as their guardians and their jailors, they ruled the men more-so than the men ruled them. No man had truly conquered the Valley of Archai, and so it was a promiscuous step to build the Temple there; on one hand, the boldness of it would impress and wow the pagans; on the other hand, it would be tough to settle and attract followers in such an out of the way location.
A monotheist was chosen to lead the settlement--a man, who was not considered either divine or battle trained per say--and it grew steadily in the years that followed. The Temple could not have been considered intimidating or enclosed in itself, and instead its main defense (if ever a need for one arose) was considered to be the land around it and the few soldiers sent to help settle. The Temple was quaint and comfortable, open and pleasing to the eye, trying to reconcile with the difficult journey the pilgrims had to undertake. Peace persisted for a good part of the Temple’s history, its followers grew and relations with the pagans remained cordial.
Unfortunately, because the land rested on what scientists would now call a fault line, an earthquake shattered the southern end of the Valley and the river flooded it wholly, and because of the early pagans’ ignorance, they had blamed it on the God of the Temple. Eventually, inevitably, the lines were drawn and the horns of war sounded. With little military to call their own, and with no knowledge of how to train new soldiers, the monotheists had to forgo their chastity and resort to installing traps to cope with the enemy’s superior numbers.
And this is where the story is left up to you, will you succumb to the enemy and be lost to the sands of time, or will you burn your attackers in righteous fire and deliver the Temple into another era of peace?

Author’s Notes--I had great fun making and playing this map! I tried to make the player rely on devious and malicious traps and strategies to win the day, under the doctrine of a holy order.

***This is a very challenging map, if you're expecting a fair fight, don't even bother downloading and giving me a 1 for balance***

Have fun and play smart!

Somehow the wrong map had been put into the ZIP folder, please redownload and enjoy the new version.

The current version is impossible and just something I was toying around with.

**please redownload**

Thanks, and my utmost apologies for the confusion.

Just to let you know... The two Word files in the zip are identical apart from their filenames.

lol, woops.

I was having problems with the different versions of the map and must have put two story files in there by mistake.

So, how's everyone liking/hating it so far?

Playability: 5
Balance is the secret of this smart map. I had really great time playing it and I have not played such a playable map since my own creations. Not much to build here (soldiers or buildings, which is a good one), but you have to use careful strategy to kill all your enemies.

Balance: 5
Both in invasions and resources. The number of soldiers attacking you grow with each invasion. As for your own units, every single unit in this map has its purpose and you will need to save and load many times to achieve victory. Perfect.

Creativity: 4,5
The idea of opened entrance into the keep is very good and will keep you alert all the time. The atmosphere is marvellous. With each invasion defeated, and with your men dead or badly hurt, you will fear the next brutal forces of the Snake. Im just giving 4,5 because I missed some more events in the game.

Map Design: 4
A descending terrain that had to give a hard time to its creator. I know it should have been a stern looking country, but I would welcome more of an eye-candy in the map. Ruins or some nice unusual land forms. Also the river could look a bit more like a real river. Anyway, I like it a lot.

Story: 5
Not much to write here. Read and you will see.

Afterword
This map was just what I was looking for. A smart map with not many units to take care of. A few brave men against the odds. The art of a tiny invasion. I have never played something like this. Maybe just my game called Lantis (similar to the building restrictions and open keep entrance). Thank you for this map!
