Hi all!
This is my first scenario I've submitted, enjoy!
++++++
This winter has been one of the coldest and fiercest in living memory. People have been driven out of the outlying rural villages into the relative warmth and security of the major cities. Every group of refugees carries their stories of bandit raids and animal attacks. But recently, people from the most northern regions have spoken of vicious attacks by hideous wolf-like creatures; some that were merely wolves, others that stood on their hind legs like a man and whispers of things as large and as fast as a man on horseback. All of these have been disregarded as common exaggeration.
Until last week.
A bloodied messenger staggered through the city gates, slumped over the saddle of his horse. Before slipping into a coma, he managed to mumble a memorised message referring to the town of Dark Moon, located in the heavily forested mountains.
Hurriedly gathering a small army, you march out as soon as possible to investigate. After a few days, you enter the marshy foothills...
++++++
Notes:
-Full story in the .zip file.
-This is actually a cede scenario - you only gain control of the fort after most of your starting troops have been killed - no sneaking in extra starting troops!
-The scenario lasts for five years.
-I've playtested this on Normal and Very Hard.h

I have to say, for a short paragraph that is a quite decent story. well written too. there are a few grammer mistakes, but many people make them.
also, you can download the map PNger in the utilities section of the site. it's simple to use and i believe it has read-me on how to use it. i'd really like to see what this map looks like![Edited on 04/05/08 @ 10:05 PM]

just took a look at the map. it looks a bit like the campaign maps and such that come with the game, but i do think that this is a par or 2 above them.
there isn't really much to say but i did find a few things. mainly these are details the map needs to make it look realistic. you could start by putting some shrubs around on the map, just don't use too many in places, because it will just look awkward. i saw a couple places where the terrain looked too linear or blocky. like the waterfall in the corner. just add a lil variation to them. you might use the equalizer tool a bit more in a few places, but this is still a fairly good map.
overall there (like i said above) wasn't much to bring up. this a quite good first submission! Keep it up! Note: i haven't played through it yet, so i don't have anything to say about that.[Edited on 04/05/08 @ 10:24 PM]

Cheers Castlefreak!
I have tried making a minimap pic, but I'm having a bit of trouble with the PNGer - I can't find the PNG file after using it. I'll try again later.
And yeah, the Map Design is a bit shabby in places. The whole thing was a bit spontaneous, I dashed it off in a few hours to kill some time.
And as for the bad grammar- Well, no excuses there. |

Playability: 5
Very playable. I thought this map was excellent. The wolves are a big problem at the start and the invasion at the end is very well balanced. Barely beateable, but beatable. This was a hard map.
What I did:
===========
I lost the first time and the second time I played. The third time I put up a wooden wall in all the gaps in the hills to the south, and then put archers along the cliffs. It funneled the wolves through and they were massacred each time. Priblem solved.
The invasion: Was very in the enemys favour. So many macemen! I did not bother with metal; I did nothing but make bows. It barely worked!
Balance: 4
Well balanced. It seemed it was made for the way I played it. Well done!
Creativity: 3.5
Creative. Origional.
Map Design: 4
Very impressive for a first map. Attentoin to detail was very good. It was VERY well scripted.
Story/Instructions: 5
The story was excellent! I thoroughly enjoyed it; it was not too long but very well written. If it were slightly longer, all the better. But still deserves a 5!
Additional Comments:
Keep the good maps coming!

Wow, a 4.4... Not bad at all, thanks a bunch IrishKern!
It would have been better if the wolves would have come in from different sign posts occasionally. Oh well.
Also, did you read the word doc that was in the zip file? There should be a extra part to the story in there.
Any other reviews? Anyone? Please? Pretty please? |
