Please be as harsh as possible when reviewing this. I likely made it far to easy for some. Perhaps even for most.
I rushed through this simply because there are so few new maps on the site to download and I was sorely wanting to play something different.
Maps from me in the future should be better after reading what other have to say about this one. |

As harsh as possible: Terrible looking mini map- same mistake as me in my valley castle map- the hills are squared and unevenly equelized. I wont download this. |

Playability: 4
This map is quite basic. We have to establish a normal castle, in order to obtain some goods. The good point on this map is that it's not boring, because of the events which come quickly, and which animate the game. The first events (brigands + wolves) are quite strong, especially about the popularity. I fall at "50", but, after that, the map wxas quite simple. I mean, it wasn't really difficult, but quite funy. I really mliked played on this map. We have also to protect the quarry, otherwise the brigands destroy it. It was a thrilling game. The utility of the brigands and the xolves is just to reduce the popularity, because we can kill them quite easily with the reinforcements and the crossbow. I don'thave a lot of things to suggest.
Balance: 4
As I said before, the utility of the negative events is especially to reduce the popularity. Indeed, the brigands don't destroy a lot of things, excepted from the quarry, of course. At the beginning, I feel quite strang to can put only one quarry, but I've all the time to have the stone needed, and blessed people (80% of blessed people, quite a lot). Maybe giving a objective with a certain sum of Gold is a good idea,j but, like that, it's pretty good.
Creativity: 3
This area isn't very important for me, but I must speak a littel about it. Well, the map isn't very original. It's a mission where we have to obtain some goods without a lot of originalities. What I find good is the utility of the negative events, like the brigands, the wolves... We aren't submerged by them, they come with a good frequence, making a very good economic game. No enemies invasions, but we have to use some troops, even if it's not really necesary to produce weapons.
Map Design: 4
Even if some people may find this map ugly, I find it quite beautiful. There're a lot of hills. Even if they seems to be "squarred", I find them beautiful, with lakes, rocks... This map makes me think to the map é"Blessing Peasants", because of the hills. We have a little plain where we might develop the city. There's also a lot of wolves, bears and deers. The expression is maybe strong, but we have the impression to a kind of ecosystem in this map. I mean that the wolves hunt the deers, and the bears kill the wolves... So, it's a kind of ecosystem. In a way, the living fauna makes a feeling og reality, even if the map doesn't look very realistic with all the hills.
Story/Instructions: 3
A short and fine story, a good introduction to the map. I'm generous here, because the rest of the map is quite good
Additional Comments:
For me, it's a good work, especially for a first map ! |

okay, i have a few things to say... firstly the idea of reviewing is to say what you think of the map without saying how you beat it. secondly: where is the building up of the mapmakers urge to continue to make maps and improve on their skills?
I have also seen very little input from the more experienced mapmakers/players in these last dozen maps... |

I want to thank you all for your comments. I did not even look at the screen shot to see that my hills were in fact squared off like that. I got in too big of a hurry.
I rarely make maps for myself that have lots of eye candy. I only make ones that function properly and are fun to play. I am working on another one that should be posted in a few days, (darn, if I only didn't have to go to work every day). |

Played the map on very hard at once.
What I liked most in this scenario is how the wolves are spread out: in small but numerous packs. Sent a group of archers all over the map to hunt them. But miss only one animal and it may massacre your people (and cows).
Similar to barbarius I find it questionable to be able to place one quarry only. This made the eco requests quite unbalanced in my opinion. Had to implement fear factor -5 to get the stones in more quickly for chapels and the goods request. During this my food production exploded pointlessly. Tore down some hovels and turned the peasants into soldiers to get by on as less chapels as possible.
Is this map locked? I couldn't load it in the editor after playing.
In a new map you may place several signpost not making it easy to catch the bandits. There are many great eco maps both of SH1 (e.g. "Castaways") and SHC (e.g. "The Order"), that may give you a feeling for the interrelations of the game levels.[Edited on 12/25/08 @ 11:16 AM]

Hi Roddy, having a quick look at the mini map, I get the idea that with a small amount of work you can make it look nice and natural.
In the terrain editor is an icon that looks like a wave, it's a smoothing tool, if you take brush size of 3 or 4 you can blend the sharp edges into the surroundings, try different brush sizes.
You can use the raise and lower ground tools for more detail. Just play around with the tools, practice you should be good at making maps, this one looks good in the mini.
Keep up the good work.
Before posting your map you can ask for testers in the map room.
Happy Mapping
