My first real map. The lord stuck in the middle will have to cripple the kids below him quickly, as even though it's difficult to get to him he's well within all firing ranges.

Hitman... please do not just say "this map is bad", do some constructive critism, for example "I liked X, but you can make Y better" or something like this. And this is first map posted by OneSevenNine, so please, be kind. Try to feel his position, when you first post a map, all approbations make you happy. And for OneSeven, I don't think this map is bad at all. It's real fun to play in the middle against two AI teams, one on the low ground and one on the hill. You can do some little improvements on the desing, but for a first try its excellent. Good job mate! : )[Edited on 07/06/08 @ 07:12 PM]

Now, when have I said that? I said the idea is very good, but it would be better if he pays attention on the terrain details. |

Well, it'd be helpful if you'd tell me what I shouldn't have done in terms of "Terrain Details..." Do you mean the aesthetics? |

I suggest everyone first take a look at Mapmaking 101, I ain't giving advices to every newsettler here. Anyway, 179, I'll make an exception for you. The map is very well shaped. All it needs is better design and maybe a story.
With the story I cannot help you, because as you may have already seen, me doesn't knows english very well. At least I think I could help you with the designing. I'll give you some advices in the following points:
1. First of all, DO NOT ever let just an empty desert in your map. If you are extremely bored, try at least fillig it with stones and schrubs terrain. I noticed this in the right side of your map, but not on the plateau. Try combining different terain types, more often.
2. The most important are the many little details. They would give the very best look of your map. For example try randomly placing stones, rocks, irons pieces, schrubs, trees etc. If you have noticed in the other guys' maps, there are plenty of resources, schrubs and trees, mixed in one fantastic terrain. With a little training it should be fine. Nobody has been born already learnt ;)
3. Finally, zoom out and look does your map looks naturally. The realistic look is always an eyecandy to us. Just ask yourself the question "Could I ever see such thing in real life". For example try interpretating real objects, areas etc. thatr you have already seen or you have picture of them :) it is a good point to place only a litle iron and stones, because they wouldn't look very good if they are too much. You have the potential, use it wisely, and voila, everything will be alright. I hope I helped you,a t least a little, that's from me. Sorry for the lack of details, I gotta go :) |
