The famous fortress for the Capital of England firstly built by William the Conquerer in 1078. Since the White Tower, several rigns of defenses have been added, along with many buildings.
It has served many purposes, such as; a fortress, a palace, a prison, a place for execution and torture, an armoury, the royal mint, a public records office, an observatory, and since 1303, the housing of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom.
(Source: Wikipedia)
First built by William the Conquerer adjacent to the southeast wall, was to protect the Normans as much as to defend from invaders. Using Caen Stone specially imported from France, he set Gundulf, Bishop of Rochester as the architect. (To not be confused with Gandalf)
The second wall was built by Richard the Lionheart along with a moat. This moat was not useful until thew reign of Henry III used Dutch moat-building techniques. He also turned it into a palacial residence. Edward I Built another curtain wall and filled in the original moat and built another outside his circle of defense. The Tower remained a residence for the Royalty until Oliver Cromwell demolished the old buildings.

Review to - The Tower - by Sir George
Playability: 2.5
I Played this as an attacker and defender on hard difficulty setting. on defending i moved pike men from the walls to protect the gate, there was also pitch in front of main gate, but no braziers or boiling oil engineers. ordered Xbows to shoot swordmen, was no hard times actually lost only 6% troops, and since there is no moat inside the castle, just river, it don't matter if enemy would get in since they couldn't go any further, on attacking that was my problem, i had really much troops left after destroying the gate, thought i could have some fun time crushing the defenders on the walls but unfortunatly there was only little stairs to help me keep going since like i said there was no moat to dig through, so the stairs were destroyed by mangonel fire, so i just quitted the game, as a conclusion about playability, really easy on defending and on attacking? i don't know, i could not go on. i didn't want to start the map again and hope mangonel doesn't shoot the walls or stairs to move.. moat inside the castle could have been the hope for the better playability.
Balance: 2.5
on Defender lost only 6&troops at hard
on Attacking couldn't win becouse of the mangonel destroying the route.
you have marked this as an 'normal' easy would fit better on this map, but since you have not rate this as an 'hard' i think balance rate giving 2.5 is a good one.
Creativity: 3.5
Castle shapes, alot of stairs, lowered walls, a little boat, there was things i could say were creative. but it is still not beatiful map enough for better than this, but still over 'regular'. that's why 3.5
Map Design: 3
The castle design is ok, i have not visited this castle but in general there could be a castle like this, the nature outside the castle was not that good, needed alot more detail, maybe eye-candy and i think castle needed those abit too. but conclusion of 3 here i think is best, it's not ugly map, but the design is not over average.
Story/Instructions: 2.5
There was little history about castle, no story for the siege at all, and no instructions anywhere, but at least there was something in-game and on the download page to read about the castle. you should write more and also about the siege itself, also instructions about the map and some notes in the zip file are needed.

Keep the maps coming, and practice, practice and practice. |
