This is my first upload to SHH. It is an economic invasion scenario that takes place over a span of nearly 30 years. The river that winds through the valley below has crested it's banks and flooded the surrounding lowlands. All farms were destroyed in the flood, you are cut off from the iron mines to the west and most of the castle's tradesmen have left. These mines and this fortress are the King's primary source of iron, weapons and armor and you have a production deadline to meet.
Frederick the Fierce, also known as 'the Wolf', has pretensions for the throne and is amassing an army. If he should take this fortress and the mines he could equip his army with superior weapons while denying the King said weapons. This could swing the balance of power to the Wolf and must not happen. Meet the King's deadline and deny the Wolf his dreams of conquest.
This scenario is a good challenge on the hard level but a real good player probably won't find the map all that hard. I haven't beaten it yet at the very hard level but I believe that it may be possible. I made it 3/4 of the way through before being overrun and I could have done better.
I have noticed a bug while playing at very hard. The miners sometimes teleport back and forth from the mines to the stockpile when you are under attack. It doesn't happen every time you are attacked but has happened sometime during each test at very hard. This is actually a good thing as I doubt you could mine enough ore to meet demand normally. The real challenge on this level is just to survive.
Any comments about this map would be welcome and I hope you enjoy it. :)
Note: I edited this zip to include a readme and help file that wasn't included in the original zip. The first 7 people to dl this map missed this file but it is mainly a hint file.
I played this map on very hard; made it, and had a lot of fun...
I did not face any bug at all with the miners, I was able to collect more iron than needed and to produce more weapons too. So it's playable even without that bug.
Playability:5 You have to hurry, start quick and keep an eye on everything... Hire many archers and crossbow men while you still have time...
Balance:5 The management between events, invasions and producing is very good and you must make sure you always have some wood in stock... The invasions are very nice, especialy in very hard... I hate those damn fires but here I must say it is reasonable ones for an enclosed keep.
Creativity:4 To have to manage your way to get wood then extend it to release land for your farms and to access the mines is a nice starting challenge.
Map design:5 A castle on a hill, some iron mines to the west and a flooded land beside a swamp... Nice map, very good design and balance.
Story/Instructions:4 Nice story, not much to say.
Overall a map to play!
I must say I played with a constant cruelty at level 2 or sometimes 3 to make it in very hard and that I ended up with 0% of casualties, which I'm proud of...

I had a great day's play on this map. super fun. Brilliant terrain. Great idea for the unusual start to the map. If anyone reads this you really are missing out if you dont DL and play this one :-)

I found it while looking for PYOK maps. I know this is not a PYOK map but I noticed the Duc de Noiseil liked it and he and I seem to like the same sort of maps sometimes so I DLd it. Its minimap is very attractive, so it is a pity that the page does not show it.

I happened to be passing and noticed the minmap link had gone dead. As I know this map I took the liberty of uploading a new minimap. I also was required by the system to state the version made with. I guessed at it being v1.1
