Here an historical siege map as accurate as the stronghold game permit it.
Chateau Gaillard action take place in 1204 and is one of the most famous french medieval siege. You play the defender, Roger de Lacy, the historical looser who failed to keep the castle for the english crown. Your duty is to resist to the french king Philippe II Auguste. I hope you will grant me with a big historical inacuracy and do better than De Lacy.
Philippe II Auguste was one of the greatest French king. Expect to have hard time.
Chateau Gaillard is the first map I submit. Primary it was a kind of Landscape map : an historical castle design.
I turn it later in an historical siege map. This map is designed to be play only as defender.
It didnt have interest to be play as attacker.
Feel free to ignore instructions about not destroying anypart of the castle, especially stairs if you feel this
map too hard. It was primary designed to be play at hard, but testers think this map is too challenging at hard
setting. I have played it too much to have a correct judgment about this.
So I think most players would have to play at normal, and expert players only, could try hard setting.
Dont try it at very hard, the map dont work correctly on this setting (sieges engins are denied to invaders).
Package include a couple of picture a text about history of this castle and his siege in 1204 and tips text.
Real name of the map in the game is Chateau Gaillard VM5.
Great map - reall enjoyable to play and with the Jalis trademark (being really hard and gving an amazing last stand feel) The map is fun to play - a great castle to play. There is good use of siege equipment, slightly too many crossbowmen on their side as so many of the defenders are shot towards the end . The map is almst imposible on normal which I dont mind - makes it a real challenge, playing on easy is really good fun (very close). The AI put up a good show swarming everything and destroying every inch of the castle. The castle itself is well designed but quite compictaed. It is hard to see how the AI get in and where they attack. Another Jalis trademark - the castle is quite crampt but makes for a great last satnd affect with all the enemy running everywhere outside. The surrounding map design is quite simple but very effective - good rolling hills and trees - makes for a nice atmosphere. Creative as well. There is a very ncie piece of storyline and instructions - a very pleasing site decription, nearly a five, perhaps could work on the englih though ;). Overall a realy fun but imossible siege!A great map to play!
