"There is little here left of value, my lord. The bodies of these holy men are strewn throughout the grounds, but the most disturbing sign is that their heads have been removed from their bodies."
The scout finishes his report and avoids Sir Johann's eyes. Johann does not move his gaze from the opening in the tent flap. He draws a last puff in from his pipe and lets out a deep, long sigh. "Let there be graves dug and prayers said. We may pity the monks, but know that it is their own fault for declining all protection save that of God's in such an evil land." Johann stood, and made his way to the table in the far corner of the tent. A dim candle stirred at the gust of air and went out.
"This monastery shall serve as a staging ground. We will find who has slain these defenseless fools and treat them in kind. I have already seen the markers made of skulls at the edge of the church land. I do not care for bandits or murderers: We must secure Lake Hasan and ourselves!"
Johann finished the marking on the map and began to roll it up. Sir Blackwell looked at his Captain next to him. They exchanged glances. "Sir, if I may," began Blackwell, "We have only a contingent of your guard and a few woodsmen. How are we to defend a mission without so much as an enclosed wall?"
Johann gave the map to the scout, who saluted, took a quick last look at the faces of Sir Blackwell and Johann, and left the tent. "Do not fear, old friend. We have with us the load-bearers and the cattle of the monks still graze in the hills. We shall remake these bitter ruins into a fort; a fort from which we shall scrape clean the caves of the area and once their bloodthirsty occupiers erased, we shall mine the wealth of stone that lays inside those jagged peaks." Johann half smiled at his old friend and sat down upon an upturned trunk. "We will need to scour the caves systematically in order to succeed. Have our men begin building a suitable place in which to live. I fear that the assailants of this land have already come to learn of our presence." He lit his pipe once more and relaxed against the support of the tent. The conversation was over.
Sir Blackwell corrected his sword, and pulled his helmet from under his arm. "My men shall ride throughout the territory, Sir, but we shall face many challenges." His eyes half closed, Johann waved Sir Blackwell from the tent.
Blackwell nodded and breathed deep. Donning his helmet, he pulled the tent flap back, blinding him with sunlight. Out he stepped, into the hot sun.
MISSION OBJECTIVE:
-Clear the mountain caves. The ore and stone there will make the ventures worth your while.
-Defend against the enemy invasions attempting to reclaim their hold on the badlands.
-Defend Sir Johann against the malignant foe, lest the spirit of your new fort be broken, and your mission a complete loss.
SPOILER ALERT!

V
-Your starting units will not be enough to clear all the caves or the enemy encampment in the south. Although there are relatively few enemies on the map, there are killing pits scattered around, generally in choke points.
-Ale bonus is helpful, but drunk men tend to steal things...
-Despite the greenery of your immediate surroundings, the desert is hot and windy. A single untended flame could ignite a whole town in a matter of minutes...
-Simply growing hops and cows should suffice for a relatively small population. Be wary a large population, lest deserters from your original army return to take what they believe is theirs.
-You could destroy the ruins in order to collect the stone, but don't count on gaining to much. Leave the ruins at the beginning because a small in your walls is better than simply no wall at all.
-The invasions gradually become massive. The sooner you can collect iron, pitch, and stone, the better! However, don't waste valuable troops clearing caves around these important areas.
-Last but not least, use your knights to sally out and destroy fire ballista. Fire during an invasion would not be helpful.
Download and enjoy trying to conquer the badlands! You have about 19 game years to complete the mission. Good luck!

Another great and entertaining map. I played it over & over again as it never became as calm as I wanted it to be. :)
The opening situation is puzzling, and in the length of the course, the player is kept on his/her toes by surprises and by taking constant care of the economy in changing circumstances.
The invasions unfold well and may overwhelm anyone who makes mistakes in leading the army. This troops get very precious here as their weapons are all hand-made.
Congratulations and big thanks. |

Oh no, this map is really frustrating and time consuming to find an appropriate recipe against those massive invasions, not to mention that it takes a while at the beginning to clear the iron or stone deposits being guarded by those pesky assassins. Alas, absolutely no fun to play on ... |
