2nd Campaign - Mission 27 - The palace in the forest
Mission briefing:
Eastern Hesse, October 1281. You were detected but managed to bravely stand your ground. You transfer your rich gold surplus to your western provinces and continue your journey with a small troop to the north. Soon, you are told that the Duke of Fulda who is favourable towards you owns an artistically created castle in the forest as his winter residence. As the castle is situated close to a major trade route, the Snake has long cast a covetous eye on it and now ventures to besiege it. You will thwart his plans with force and hold the castle until he has given up his intentions. Move your troops quickly from the south into the castle. Surely, the Duke will express his gratitude.
Comments:
Stronghold is not just a game. It is one of the best and most popular strategy games of all time. I appreciate the depth of strategic thinking Stronghold requires from the player, and even more, the world editor, which allows you to design a map to the greatest level of detail and reflect nature's beauty in it.
Acknowledging the great work many authors have contributed to the Stronghold Community here, I created a set of 70 missions to conquer medieval Germany. My aim is to give you a Stronghold experience that reflects the beauty of my home country Germany and the diversity of its castles.
The complexity of this project increased with time. Initially wanting to build 20 missions, I continued to receive more ideas and felt the need to express them in the campaign. Work on this project took me a few years, with breaks included.
The missions have been grouped into five campaigns and feature dozens of real-life maps, including many original German castles that are based on their original footprint/construction plan. The missions also include fictional maps reflecting Germany's scenery.
At 'very hard' settings, most of my missions are tough but feasible. Like in the Middle Ages, you will need to build and defend your castle wisely.
I am using Stronghold 1.41. |

Sadly, the only quarry spot on the map is unusable: It is so close to the signposts that it is automatically deleted when the invasions spawn, and cannot be rebuilt either, rendering the pre-placed ox tethers useless as well. |

Hi PrinceofHesse, it must have been fun creating this map, playing home :)
I looked up ‘Hessen Fulda medieval castle’, there are baroque castles galore, but no Fulda medieval to be found. I always look up castles which have been recreated with the Stronghold editor.
Well, the map is out of this world; castle, terrain… outstanding!
Unfortunately, this map is too hard for my level. I held the first attack, but only after the enemy demolished some walls and everything outside the castle. Henceforth, it was a continuous struggle to keep my popularity and my people fed.
Drastic time call for drastic measures. I had to disfigure the castle to rebuild something more functional. I even demolished expensive buildings and mines to purchase food and some longbows.
The last attack was bestially brutal. I was seriously outnumbered, and the enemy was equipped with siege engines, knights, armour, and they were suicidal maniacs. I maxed out the favourable structures just to increase the moral and sharpen the weapons.
I beat this one by the skin of my teeth. Does the easy version feature somewhat milder enemy? That would be more suitable for people of my level of skill.
But thanks, in its own right, this map is great.

Thank you for commenting! You're right, there is no such castle near Fulda. If you google 'Rivendell', you will see what I tried to copy ;). This is a fantasy map.
Yes, my maps have varying difficulty, and this one seems to be a more difficult one. I'm glad you managed it, though. If you were always going to win easily, it would be too boring, wouldn't it? ;) |
