Map pack containing 5 irl places that pose either strategic locations or where castles have been built.
Due to forum limitations only the preview of one map (Nizwa) can be supplied upfront. Note that I made these maps like over a year ago so unless I return to Crusader they won't be patched.
1) Arguin island close to the Mauretanian coast posed a strategic supply and shipping line between Europe and West Africa. The island was spottet by Portugal and fortified in the 15th century, securing a nearby market sporting various high value goods irl. It changed hands several times, even becoming a German colony for a while, is difficult to settle, but was only approachable by sea. You will have to rely on trade.
2) Ras Nouadhibou is a nearby Mauretanian peninsula at the Arguin bay. Same as Arguin island it is barren, but offers more space and a land connection.
3) Nizwa is a city in the Oman heartland and formerly both capital city and a centre for scholarly learning, hosting several mosques and orchards. It was defended by a 12th century castle that was overhauled in a complete fashion again in the 17th century. The map is easy to play on beyond the fact that any city will be split by the river.
4) Qal'at Najm or Najm castle in Syria was reconstructed on the site of an earlier Roman fort in the 12th century. It is a strategic point overlooking the Euphrates river. The fort itself is an easy free building excercise, however you will have to keep long supply lines due to ground fertility and uneven terrain.
5) Semiran is the location of a castle securing a valley section roughly between Zanjan and Qazvin in Iran. It dates back to the 6th or 7th century. This map is easy again beyond long supply lines to the vulnerable fertile river banks as well as limited space.
