Well i think this is one of my last castle in december and janury i will maybe return in feburay and when that time come's i will download all these castle one by one and capture them wiht my perfect army.
Goths Castle’s has some problems, most notably of which is that it is incredibly easy. The design of the map shows some effort but poor choices ruin any challenge this map could have had.
Playability 2/5 I am assuming from the announcement at the start of the scenario that this is a defending siege only. Unfortunately the AI engages terribly. After an initial wave that quickly overruns the small, separate, outer fortifications, attacks are piecemeal. These small advancing parties are drawn, like moths to a flame, to a small stone outpost directly in front of the main fortress. Here the defending ballistic units tear them to pieces while they hack away at a pointless structure. The attacking swordsmen engage last. By this point all other enemy units were dead and the moat defending the main castle was still unfilled. Swordsmen cannot fill moats and the siege was effectively over. The swordsmen continued to engage in small squads however. I eventually became so bored that I mustered my knights and macemen and sent them to dispatch these stragglers. I achieved victory on my first attempt. Playing on a difficulty level of very hard, I suffered losses of only 16% to my defending troops!
Balance 2/5 More than three quarters of the defending troops must be ballistic units. This force is practically unstoppable since the attacking forces have been given neither engineers nor crossbowmen. The over use of kill pits inside the castle is noted but not an issue due to the reasons stated in playability. I am almost surprised that this siege even functions. Perhaps the author’s choice not to give the attacking forces crossbowmen is to mask the fact that they would not engage. Was this map even play tested? A LOT more effort is required in this category.
Creativity 3/5 some simple eye candy, definitely above average but nothing truly inspiring is to be found. A decent effort has been applied and the map and castle are well designed for the most part.
Map Design 3/5 Some good work in this department. The author has made a real point of giving the down loader a pleasing well worked over landscape. It might have been better to leave out some of the outer forts, especially the one directly in front of the main castle. This would have improved the AI’s performance tremendously. The main fortress itself has no partitions or inner defensive ability so to speak. Had the attackers been able to break into the castle they would have quickly overrun all of the wall tops and towers. A real castle would not have been so vulnerable in this respect. Still, this is the maps strongest category IMO, some good effort here.
Story/Instructions 2/5 Nothing really, some hard to follow lines about the authors other maps. I believe English is not this author’s first language but there are no playing notes and no story on either the download description or launch pages. Far more of an effort is required for a high score. I am actually giving this a generous 2.
In Short-not this authors best work by far. Some decent terrain work but a lot more practice is needed.
