Additions:The game is there! Sorry about that, didn't notice that until i was emailed about it...
After narrowly being captured by Saladin's Army(refer to my other game 'Beginning Of An Empire'), you deside to take the offensive and attack and hopefully capture an outpost.
Despite being out numbered, your troops have high hopes and the castke has several weaknesses. You had found two unmanned fire billistas along the way which should help even the odds.
Again, tell me what you think and always enjoy my maps! |

Playability: 4/5
Good little map this. Armed with a handful of troops and two extremely useful, if not critical fire ballista, you have to impregnate a pretty well defended castle and kill all troops within, including the Lord.
This map plays extremely well. Initially daunted by the small number of troops at your disposal, I managed to win first time around, but this is a real tactical, stealth based map. Luckily those fire ballista were the key to victory, as they were able to set fire to buildings within the castle and burn some of the defending units, as well as take out some of the Arabian archers in the tall towers. A thoroughly enjoyable map on a small scale.
Balance: 4/5
Tricky! It can all go so horribly wrong and I found myself inching my units forward to see what will attack and where. Balance is near perfect in terms of troop ratios (defending against attacking) and the knights, whilst strong in attack and defence, are cumbersome moving around the castle. They took some prety heavy hits before they were able to access the towers and take out units within. It was also good to see the option for some other siege equipment with a small amount of starting gold, should you wish to batter your way in rather than take the back road, as it were. Really good effort, the map is a real joy to play and is testing, especially for the more tactically naive, like myself!
Creativity: 4/5
A standard siege map in effect, listed as an invasion scenario. Creativity here goes to the idea and theme of trying to crack a particularly tricky castle with the odds stacked against you. It's an idea that can go horribly wrong, but Arabian Outpost is a very well put together map.
Map Design: 3/5
On a small scale, which suits the game perfectly. A decent enough castle construction that takes a bit of work to get into. The terrain was okay too, maybe a little bland in areas? Smaller brush sizes when modelling terrain would make this better aesthetically. Good effort though.
Story/Instructions: 3/5
A decent little story accompanies this map. Simple and to the point, as are the instructions. You don't really need bags of info on what to do with this and maybe by expanding the content of the story a little, a better mark could be achieved. That said, the whole map is above average and comes together well for me.
IN SUMMARY: Bit of a belter, this one. I'd certainly recommend this as a download, because it's interesting, intriguing, fun and something different from the huge castle/hundreds of troops invasion scenarios available. Really good work and full credit to the author! :) |
